Stepper Neutral Newbie October 10, 2002 Share October 10, 2002 (edited) Is it normal for a car to take longer to warm up( my engine vibrate quite a lot when cold start) when engine treatment( a blue bottle, dont know wat brand) is added. My mech say it will thicken my engine oil and it will make my engine quieter. Me driving a 91 civic gl, carb car. Mondeo Neutral Newbie October 10, 2002 Share October 10, 2002 (edited) Your mech said half ture that older car uses thicker engine oil but not for quieter. Change the enigne oil frenquetly will help only. But I dun think the vibration all came from the new engine's treatment. U should adjust the fuel air mix ratio. possible the idle speed not enough. Vtim 3rd Gear October 11, 2002 Share October 11, 2002 Clean your carb & also check whether your engine oil is due for change, assuming other parts on the engine are ok! Used 50 weight oil instead of
Stepper Neutral Newbie October 11, 2002 Author Share October 11, 2002 but b4 the engine treatment everything is ok. engine oil change due next month, maybe will bring forward and also do carb cleaning at the same time.
Vtim 3rd Gear October 11, 2002 Share October 11, 2002 I assume you are using mineral oil Mineral tends to break down when it's about due to change, ard 5000km, so I think a change of your oil (try using Syn, weight 50 oil) will clear your problem. Stepper Neutral Newbie October 11, 2002 Author Share October 11, 2002 I using semi syn shell oil, maybe i buy the oil from jb that why breakdown easier
Gadgeter 2nd Gear October 11, 2002 Share October 11, 2002 Stepper, I dun think it is due to the fact that the oil was was JB.. The treatment you added could have created some residue....
Stepper Neutral Newbie October 11, 2002 Author Share October 11, 2002 if it really really create residue what can be done? flush the engine? thks.
Vtim 3rd Gear October 11, 2002 Share October 11, 2002 Was told that there are some syndicate using recycle oil and past it off as new in Malaysia . Don't know whether it's true or not
Stepper Neutral Newbie October 11, 2002 Author Share October 11, 2002 heard of that before too
Gadgeter 2nd Gear October 11, 2002 Share October 11, 2002 Just change your engine oil more often. It will "flush" off the residue. It happens to my friend civic too... Understand it was because the ex-owner added some engine oil treatment..
Mondeo Neutral Newbie October 11, 2002 Share October 11, 2002 If can DIY, just station the car and let the engine oil drip overnight, then put some new engine oil next morning but dun screw back the oil tray screw but need changed the filter, start engine and run for 20 seconds and off it, and let the oil drip for another hrs, screw back, should be better. Slowpoke 3rd Gear October 11, 2002 Share October 11, 2002 I hope you did not add the STP engine treatment (comes in a blue metal can, opens with a ring tab like those on a coca cola can) that sxxt is vile, man! Long time ago when I just got my 1st car, backside itchy added a can of that sxxt.... end result, engine oil cooked off leaving black gooey mess in my valvetrain, had to do top overhaul.....definitely not for high revving jap engines
Yongwd 1st Gear October 11, 2002 Share October 11, 2002 if ur car vibrate like a boneshaker, check if your carb is properly tuned (which most mech dunno how to tune properly) If u are kiasu enuff like me, take out the spark plugs every 2000km and observe the characteristic As for engine additive, forget it. Why dont u try pulling the choke on ur GL? I remember 5-6 clicks total travel, pull about 2 clicks during cold start, unless your GL is a later model with auto-choke Is it normal for a car to take longer to warm up( my engine vibrate quite a lot when cold start) when engine treatment( a blue bottle, dont know wat brand) is added. Mondeo Neutral Newbie October 11, 2002 Share October 11, 2002 Yeah, that's what I try to say on my earlier post.
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie October 11, 2002 Share October 11, 2002 Check your choke and make sure it works, also consider checking out your thermostat since it's taking longer than usual to start. Also, oil change is definitely due for Ur Civic.
Stepper Neutral Newbie October 12, 2002 Author Share October 12, 2002 where can i get a reliable mech to have my carb tune? b4 i add the engine treatment, i already use the choke(3 clicks, 1st 2 clicks no effect) when i start my car in the morning, the rpm will be at abt 1700-1800 rpm, now only abt 1400-1500 rpm(no vibration) ,when i push the choke back(after abt 30-45 sec) the car is like dieing off and coming back.
