Hi! there, Mondeo,

That's to snook my neighbours into thinking I maintain my engine by oiling it. [laugh][laugh]

just bought a bottle of Castrol SLX 0w30..people at STC suggest using this thin oil for better performance so I thought I'd give it a shot since I'm due for an oil change soon anyway..

What performance you're referring to? A thin oil is good for newer engines and offer better fuel consumption. However, if you refer performance as sporty driving, then a thin oil might not be good at all. During high speed driving, when the engine's operating temp can be very high, a thin oil may not able to protect the moving parts adequately.

IMO, I'd only use a thin oil if fuel consumption is my primary concern and my driving stlye is geared towards maximising those figures.

I assume yr one is new car and 5K servcing is also the 1st time servicing right?

usually, changing engine oil should be at least 10K. Fully synthetic oil should give a better protection to your engine. Whenever changing any oil, flushed throughtly before change, try not to mixed[thumbsup]
