Lots of people in this trade speculate that it will not go below 20k. I think so too... Just imagine how much less the government earns when COE drops that much. More likely they make cars cheaper by lowering the ARF, and then increase usage costs (e.g. ERP).

the govt has no system one lah. COE is there for a show only.

They will lower the COE for all they care if the TOTAL NO. of cars can earn them more than now. [:)]

More cars can even earn them more ERP charges too.

As such, I won't be surprise if the COE goes below 20K. Having "too many" cars on the road will give LTA more room to play for earning more. [sly]

If COE goes below $20K to say low teens, I wonder if there'll be a snowball effect such that even more cars gets de-registered as people would wanna use the opportunity change cars, even if their current one is less than 2 years old. Then govt will say that no of cars de-registered is more than what is issued. The vicous cycle continues till below $10K COE??? [laugh]

It won't happen. Anyway, these people who want to change car need to check their outstanding balance with the finance company first. Most cases need to top up just to sell the current car away.

Perhaps after all the buying frenzy with limitless supply of COE, then its pay-back time! Not only up ERP but the start of "Evening ERP" [jawdrop] because too many cars on the road! Parking charges up, road tax up, fuel up, up up up......

Yup agreed and nowadays with so many cashback rebates, new car buyers are effectively tied down for at least 3 yrs or else they gotta cough back the rebates...

they usually have discounted prices for these testdrive cars.... it is done for almost all makes.... even BMW.....

just wondering who so cheapo to buy one......think about it, even if you buy 2nd, 3rd, 4th hand cars, they are still less abused than the testdrive car whacked by thousands of testdrive customers!!!!

I know i am gonna get flamed for this but the best analogy i can think of:

1) marrying a divorcee

2) marrying a prostitute (no offence to those in this profession)

laugh.giflaugh.giflaugh.gif

So is it right to say ... its like this

2nd hand car = marrying a divorcee

Test Drive Car = marrying a prostitute

ure damn right, 52% owns car < 3yrs....most r stuck w their car, not being able to sell as most wld hv to cough out substantial cash....this is the current phenomenon,,, in a way, most whom hv n want to purchase a new car have already done so...demand is going to be weaken...... i suggest those whom r thinkg of buying... to bid COE at ur own leisure...10K+ .... ur bids may be hit !! current car market is analogus to US housing market ....

every month income from COE

avg 24k (ppcs) x 6k pcs (CAT A,B,E) = 144 million per month

so per yr is 144 M x 12 = 1.728 Billion nia ....

so i figure since 1990 till now, modestly estimated figure is around - 25 ~ 30 Billion.

taking into consideration the gd old 1995 days when a COE is over 100k !
