I think my Sonata is sick...

Hi all, new to this forum.

I have the same problem with the Sonata. Mine was the second generation (1999) EF model. Everything was running fine untill about a year ago when it passed its fifth birthday. When the car is stopped (and with the auto gear in 'D'), it experiences serious vibrations. It was very uncomfortable and I brought it back to Komoco a few times. The replies by the technical advisers (over-rated title) were always the same, i.e. acceptable range, normal wear and tear, not serious, etc etc.

Recently, the engine noise is getting unbearable at low RPM. The problem was due to the pulleys which, I think, is coming loose.

Other problems: air-con compressor, alternator gave up on me, power window.

I got fed-up with the car and because I have a feeling things will be falling apart soon, I decided t get rid of it once and for all. in view of the recent hikes in petrol prices, Idowngraded to a 1600cc car. I have just booked the 2005 Civic ES5 and expecting delivery in September.

p.s. went to Komoco's showroom to view the new Sonata. I must say it looks delicious. The 2l model coming in at the end of the year. If it is not because I want to save on petrol, I would have got back a Sonata.

it shdnt be an inherent prob...feel vibrations shd be due to few factors...engine mount (iszit mount properly and such), actuator, idling sensor, idle rpm...etc

Thanks all for your comments.Mine is the latest 2005 model of Sonata. Looks impressive but the vibration problem happens to a brand new car is worrying. Have done the 1k service and asked Komoco to check but they said it is normal. On their advice I am now using 98 petrol but still vibrate. Don't know what to do ??? [confused][confused]
