Hi - has been looking at the New Octavia 1.6A recently, pretty impressed with the hugh boot space but kind of concern as this car is very rare here. I want to know from existing owners on the some of the details of this car in terms of

1. Fuel consumption

2. Engine make and road noise

3. Road handling

4. Accessories

Hi! Welcome to MCF ... Lots of SOG people here [;)]

You might want to check out this thread

Can read the other threads in here as well...

I first test drove the Octavia few years back and loved it the moment I drove it... Finally got it now and I've not turned back [;)]

In terms of handling, its way better than my ex-lancer

Accessories wise, what are you looking for actually? The car shares parts with VW, Audi and Seat...so no problem for spares [;)]

I'm never going back to sushi again unless sh*t happens [laugh]

Hi Lightspeed

In a high petrol price country in Singapore, I am kind of concern about its fuel consumption. So far I have not seen many comments on the average utilisation.

I think CA has already brought in the new 1.6A, but the 1.6 MPI version, which seems a old technology 8V SOHC. What is the performance/consumption difference vs the DOHC (which most Jap cars has today).

All I can say is the 1.6 Octavia is a good car overall. Fuel consumption ranges around 10.5-11.5km/l depending on your driving habits and roads as well. Which I think is not bad for such a heavy car. Btw, I'm running on 17" rims so I reckon it can be better. [:)]

Engine noise will increase if you rev above 4000rpm and road noise is very minimal. Sound insulation surpasses Jap cars anytime. [;)]

Road handling is fantastic. This is one of the main reasons why I bought the Octavia. Minimal body roll and very stable be it cornering and high speed. [sly]

Aftermarket accessories might be a little problematic cos the Octavia is not a very common car here. Normal parts like what Lightspeed said, is shared among the other VAG cars so no problem replacing them.

At below the $80k mark, this is one of the best cars around to drive. [thumbsup]

And btw, if you're looking for pick up and fast sprints then [shakehead]

Mine is a 1.6A Octy, with my 17" rims I can achieve best 11.5km/l when I'm lightfooted. [thumbsup] Initially was around 10km/l best when I first got the car. Now it hovers around 11km plus minus.

Granted, Euro cars are better built than their Jap counterparts but they are more prone to niggling problems too.

Owned Alfas & Renault before so speaking from experience.

Kena auto gearbox or engine problems and you will understand why so many people love Jap's Sushi.

Good luck [;)]

Hi - has been looking at the New Octavia 1.6A recently,

Hi Kahlid and all, just to verify: are you guys talking about the 2004 New Octavia, or the existing model?

I presume its the latter?

Anyone knows for sure when the new model is due to arrive, and also if the following are true:

(1) the new model will be sold alongside the old model (although probably at a significant price premium)? [shakehead]

(2) only the 2.0L will be brought in?

(3) Fsi?

Appreciate any info on this. Cheers! [thumbsup]

Heard that there are quite a number of current models left. So I doubt CA will bring in the new model so soon. It may take quite awhile.

Hi Relak - thanks.

I guess we're talking abour the incumbent model then. Notwithstanding the apparently less-than-satisfactory service standards of CA, I must say the current model is still a good buy I think.

Some may think it looks plain, but its quiet understated looks still makes my head turn every time I see one go by. [inlove]

Hey, no probs. The octavia looks good with the bodykits if you are to invest in one. [:)]

Too bad in Singapore, Skoda as a brand is not marketed well enough. Whats your ride?

Agree very much on the lack of marketing here. They could do so much more. Look at how they've turned themselves around in Europe. Almost to the extent of a "reverse snob appeal" if you will.

My ride is a humble Hyundai Matrix - but am looking to change soon to something I can stick to for the long run (at least 7 years or so), and which is safer for the family (at least in terms of the safety features onboard).

The current Octy is a strong pull for me, although the specs and reviews for the incoming model make it too good to pass up. [inlove]

Haha [laugh][laugh] Those are the pics I've been ogling over for a long time now.

Might have to settle for a slightly less overt look tho (i.e. no bodykits), cos the wife is a factor too. [laugh] Besides, the scroogy pragmatist in me seems to feel that side skirts and front lips get damaged a little too easily... [lipsrsealed]
