To find the Jap ones, go look for Nissan workshop. They use the same plug.

does yr car start properly and no misfiring ?? Why do u need to change them? Waste money! as long a "spark plug" produce spark it is doing it's job.

No doubt they r cheap. save it to chane somthin else which is more value like brake fluid.

Q. Why do we need to change spark plugs?

A.One of the most economic ways to maintain an efficient engine and avoid wasting fuel is to change spark plugs at regular intervals. As spark plug electrodes wear, the voltage required to jump the gap increases. Under hard acceleration, high speeds or heavy loads, misfires can occur and that will waste fuel. Also, a rich fuel mixture or poor oil control can foul or coat the ceramic insulator on the spark plug tip. Fouling like excessive wear will promote misfires and can eventually cause the spark plug to stop functioning.

Why change? Clean and re-gap! Unless it is grounded anf failed. eg no spark shorted or crack. Save the earth lahh. These metal are resources of the earth.

If no misfires and engine start up ok. Don't change lahhh. makes more sense.

Not many people got gapping tool you know? If can avoid re-gapping with a cheap Pt or Ir plug why not? Someone is selling NGK BKR6E-GP (gapped to 1.1mm) for $24-26 for a set of 4 if you purchase his oil. For 60-100k mileage why not?

Hi G47,

Still so active in the forums.... Anyway it is just an opinion. I got the gapping tools and feeler guage. Cheap! hahaha .... for $24-26 = Change brake fluid and brake bleeding every 2 years! clean clean dot4 yahoo !! LOL

Not that I neow, but it is a fact. Spark plugs don't do much in normal driving. Unless you have high compression engines.

Anyway I am doing 800km / 60L on the optra. Guess it works! but have to use 0W-40 oil to achieve that. if you use 5W-50 ... it drops 50-70km per 60L. Guess it is too thick when it is hot.

Go to 30wt oil. The Optra's engine is a longer stroke version of the Aveo's 1.4L. I use 30wt, fuel economy is really up there plus a lot of component drag eliminated. Like someone from Autoworld commented, it is like using V-Power all the way even though you pumped RON92 gas. laugh.gif

Same lah! The Pt plugs if you can get cheap gives you savings. I was fortunate to get the PZFR6-11 from Vtim before they were snapped up. $16 for 4 can't be beaten! thumbsup.gif So far the cheapest is the BKR6E-GP if you purchase the oil from MX.

As for brake fluid, get the Ate Super DOT 4. $12 for 1L. Freaking good stuff and confirm can change every 2yrs because the wet bp is a whopping 180 deg C! Normal DOT 4 from petrol kiosk is around 155-160 so once a year change is recommended. This Super DOT 4 exceeds DOT 5.1 even! Now I'm trying to jio the shop to bring in TYP 200 cheaply.

BTW, since you gap them yourself, got a torque wrench too? To me this is important. Don't want to rip the threads off the aluminium block.

Good for you. Sad I am still running the stock plugs from day 1 out of the factory. [laugh][hur] . Just look at them every oil change and it is running rich! black soot on the tip. Me just use fine sand paper polish.

Me think abt SAE30 fully syn. What brand u use?

No i use the 1/2 - 3/4 turn method. Oh yah time to time do check the washer on the plugs. It get flatter. I am thinking to extend the checking interval to 1 year on the plugs as it does wear the washer on the plugs. Soon it will need replacement because of that. [blush] not because of plug failure! because of over checking ...LOL

PM me. You can borrow my torque wrench. As for 30wt oil. If you like very budget, the Toyota 10W30 dino oil is friggin' cheap at $15-16 for 4L. A nice blended oil with strong additive package is Schaeffer's Supreme 10W30. If can get Conoco Diamond 5W30 from Malaysia's Projet also good. MYR79 for 4L.

I'm using Citgo 10W30 dino with 10k OCI. Also very cheap.

Cheap spark plugs from Petronas! BKR6E-11 made in Malaysia costs MYR35 for 4. I got for someone from the Petronas station along Skudai Highway. The one with the 24hrs McD's near the Pasir Gudang Highway flyover.

Thks G47 for the offer for the wrench. I'll take note of that. I may need it more on the oil drain plug. It has alum sump. That is more danger. At the rate 1 clock 10k in 3 mths. 1 year 4 times change oil ....

I'll use the citigo next round. somwhere in march 2006...LOL.

You got parts from Song Yi?? Me buy filter from them at $4. U??

Same here $4/filter.

As for the sump plug, why don't you go the Fumoto way? I have mine installed, Lukie also got it installed. The F106 fits the Aveo and Optra so no problems. Just flick. No need to use the sump plug and its crush washer. I know it is expensive at USD23 but the ease pays for itself.
