Atlantis_boi Clutched April 7, 2006 Share April 7, 2006 true, went toyota for test-drive 2 mths ago and was enquiring about the car/COE bid. the SE said not to worry, its almost 100% that they will be able to get COE. Mayb bcos their cars r priced much higher than cost. Thus, the huge profit margin justify them 2 do so even when COE goes up a little.

I think if you ask this "COE can get type?" of question to any SE of any car make, they will give you this SAME standard answer. If you believe them wholeheartedly and put money down, dont be surprised the same joker who said " dun worry, sure can get one" will call you and ask "eh can top up ahh?" Tanjk Neutral Newbie April 7, 2006 Share April 7, 2006 In this case, sad to say, you don't really have any recourse. Guaranteed COE doesn't means the dealer will give you a COE in next x number of bids (x can be any number depending on your contract), they can give you any COE within that time frame. Plus there is a 'no COE rebate' clause. You could technically reject and lose your deposit $$. So, in this case, they couldn't get a cheap COE, so they give you a Cat E from I think Jan/Feb. As a note to all potential guaranteed package buyer, do note that Cat E COEs have a 'lifespan' of 6 months. So before you sign, just go to LTA's website and check for the past 6 months of COE and see if you can accept the lowest quoted there. At this point, the lowest is about 9k so be prepared to accept this one if you want guaranteed. Regards, JK
Tanjk Neutral Newbie April 7, 2006 Share April 7, 2006 that's the way! Don't ever ever top up. Actually, last time my SE from BM tell me 'don't bother with the guaranteed packages that cost 2k more' ....... Regards, JK

Sidewinder Neutral Newbie April 7, 2006 Share April 7, 2006 (edited) Yup, that was what my SE from BM told me when I booked my Yaris. "Dun waste extra money on the guaranteed COE. Cos BM will definitely want to secure COE." So I saved $1K! And I got my COE on Wed. Edited April 7, 2006 by Sidewinder
Silver_blade Turbocharged April 7, 2006 Share April 7, 2006 Agree. Never top-up....cos you will most likely to get the coe at the last bid. Otherwise, just take your money to somewhere else.
Ncss Clutched April 7, 2006 Share April 7, 2006 (edited) Guaranteed COEs are not necessary Cat E... Most agent still use Cat A and B, I am not sure about PI car... For non-guaranteed COEs, it is unlikely to top up unless the COEs and car price shoot up a lot... but your car purchase will delay a lot if all the bids are unsuccessful in the time frame... but they will inform you and ask permission to carry on biding, so your bids will delay for months. Adawang 1st Gear April 7, 2006 Share April 7, 2006 (edited) tks for your reply, so it can b dangerous as the dealer can give u any coe. cars with guaranteed coe is priced higher than bidding?? so we are at a disadvantage, u pay a higher price and the coe will be unknown, n they can allot you with COE of any value where else if u bid , u will roughly know where the coe will be & some more selling price is lower than guaranteed scheme pls let me know if i got the above correctly buyers muz take note ah (applies to me as well) Edited April 7, 2006 by Adawang
Gothviruz Neutral Newbie April 7, 2006 Share April 7, 2006 (edited) I booked my car in Feb (when COE was at low $8k), non guaranteed, 6 biddings. 1st Bid - $9,200 2nd Bid - $9,800 3rd Bid - no bid 4th Bid - $8,800 (?????) 5th Bid - no bid (????) <-- Last Wednesday 6th Bid - ...we shall see... And some of those who booked ard same time as me, got their COE secured on the 4th bid. My SE said cos they took manual, ready stock. Mine is auto, till now still no stock. If SE ask me to top up this last round... i'll ask for refund for my $1k and go look for other cars. I will. Tanjk Neutral Newbie April 7, 2006 Share April 7, 2006 What you have describe is more or less correct. Why do guaranteed package cost more? This is due to buyer insecurity. In this case, they (buyer) really wanted the car, so they pay more to 'secure' the COE. If you go for bidding, technically, you can be unsuccessful and therefore not have the car after that x number of bids. IMO, most first time car buyer falls into this trap. So that time when I buy from BM, I made it very clear to the SE that I have a car to drive, so don't bother to ask me to top up and what other nonsense you have. Either you give me the new car or I just continue to drive my old car. But then of course, he also feels that the 2k extra is a waste of $$$ ;) But, if you think about it, why would any dealer not want your business? Making less is always better than not making any $$$. So my take is that if you want my business, you'll get the COE for me, therefore, I would never pay more for a guaranteed package. That said, recently I booked a car from a PI who only offers a guaranteed price or a price w/o COE. I went for the guaranteed one because the price differential is only $8k. So unless COE tumbles below $8k (which to me is unlikely in the forseeable future), I would be better off getting their guaranteed package, even if they give me the Jan/Feb Cat E COE. Anyway, just sharing my experience .... Regards, JK
Silver_blade Turbocharged April 10, 2006 Share April 10, 2006 I'm pretty sure you will get the COE. Sometimes they bid low or didn't bid at all, cos the car you booked in not here yet...so no point getting one for you. ↡ Advertisement
