I'm interested in getting 2nd hand Unichip, notice in Viswork website that there are afew models. Are they universal in nature? Any problems to take over a unit from a Jap car & install in a VAG car?

You will need a B series chip, if I remember correctly. The chips are NOT universal, as the difference between them are mainly due to the way it recognises crank triggers.

I'm assuming here that your car uses the same 1.8L block and ECU as the MkIV VW Golf.

Thanks all bro for the info.

Do we determine between specs A and B series by the color of the box? So far I have seen blue & gold, was told that there are red(for conti cars) and purple(Tc or SC).

Yep, my ride is a VW 1.8 on a MKIV platform, as for the ECU, I have no idea [confused] . Do i need a vagcom to check?

If I remember correctly, for the older 16bit Unichips, it should be the red one for you. To be sure there is a wiring diagram for your car, you may want to take a pic of the ECU as well as the pins and connectors. From there, I should be able to tell if you can wire it up at any dealer.

The other option is, if you have a VAG workshop that can help you trace ignition, fuelling, TPS, Lambda and airflow signals in your car leading to the ECU, it will work as well.

Hi friend, I visited viswork in JB together with a friend driving a 1.8T. They claim very familiar with conti car because they had their training in south Africa with VW cars. Since you will need someone to tune the unichip for you, suggest you give them a call to confirm everything, and may be get them to tune for you too. For NA car, if I remember correctly, it should be about RM1200, including hardware plus tuning. Need to check with them how much cost for tuning only if you will to get the unichip elsewhere.

Hi, I know someone who just got dealership of Upsolute: http://www.upsolute.com/

They tested the chip being very good performance on the 1.8T engine.

I personally not very convinced about chipping solution. However, cannot deny the result they got for the 1.8T. If you are interested please PM me. I just make the introduction, no $$ incentive.
