Hi.. i am currently looking at doing up the ICE in my car and am considering changing the speakers as well. However due to budget constraints, am not able to afford those high-end speakers like clarion, lanzar, etc.

 

Can anyone advise me on respectable quality speakers at a budget price (not more than $150)????

I think you can get Lanzar around that price. But without installation of course. Anyway, Lanzer isn't really high-end, I think. Cause they do carry budget model. I have installing "Infinity 6000" tomorrow, at Mok's Konceptz. I will ask him for recommendations, but he only have 2nd-hand. Do you mind?

 

Alternatively try Sim lim tower's New Century at 2nd floor. Can ask for advise there, got a guy named Andy.

I dun mind 2nd hand so long as the cone is still in good shape and sound quality is acceptable.

Bro, I have a suggestion. Why not you get a good 2nd hand speakers instead or save up a little bit more? Frankly speaking with a max budget of $150, you can hardly get a decent pair of brand new components. Unless you dont mind taking entry level brands like Kenwood, BOSS(low end), JBL etc..end of the you might be wasting money cos the sound quality is just gonna improve by a bit. [:/]

go to autoform at syed alwi road. they are the wholesalers. Most shops in SIMLIM got their stuffs from AUTOFORM.

Another suggestion would be to go to Autobac at bukit batok. Last time I went, they have these Kenwood's components at 170 or 175. May be a bit out of your budget, but can go there is test out the speakers. Then note the model, go to Simlim tower to ask the price.

 

I just did my infinity 6000 components with Mok, sound did improve by a lot, but it is like just going from super lousy to average. Tweeter is a little noisy, but bass is good. I drive those without an amps. Let's see after I got a amp, what will be the difference.

 

Oh, Mok said speakers at that budget isn't worth it, so didn't recomment any. Just thought of something, how about a good set of speakers? You can get really good ones with that budget. Then can either save up for a pair of tweeters, or a good set of components later to replace the front, switch the first speakers to the back.

 

Say, you setting aside some money for installation too?

Actually, I also heard a nice set of Kenwood component at Autobac (Bt Batok) a couple of weeks back. They were priced around $150-170 if I'm not wrong.

They sounded much better than any speakers in the price range while I was there. [thumbsup]

I dun mind getting 2nd hand speakers, so long as the condition is good.. any good place to recommend to get 2nd hand speakers?

 

In fact, my entiere set of ICE equipment is all 2nd hand: 2nd hand woofer, 3rd hand amps.. and i think i have 2nd hand JBL tweeters as well (gift from friend when he scrapped his car) [laugh] [laugh]

Kenwood is good? Hmm.. I frequent Autobacs, but usually find their pricing for the ICE section a bit too high for my budget, which is why I hardly head up there.. Will check it out. Thanks for the info.

 

Yeah, I have set aside some money for installation. My $150 budget is exclusive of installation fee. Any good installers to recommend? I was thinking to go to GT Auto along Simon Road as I heard the chap (Ah Yuen) is good with wiring.

Didn't know much installers, asked around for amps and components installation before. Ranges around S$100-120, all roughly the same. Skill, Mok is like DIY, but he used RCA cables and treated his wires with respect.

Try Autobaucs, last week were there and they are selling the RODEK at $98.....there was this Hertz from Italy...not bad and about $220.
