really know nuts in ICE. Can i ask what is a component speaker?

usually component speakers are speakers that comes with tweeters... either external or in built into ur speaker......

Actually, you should get a good set for your front speakers & a good sub. Dun waste money on the rear, they are just for rear fill. Power those with a 4 channel amp that is bridgable.

That makes the 2 of us. But I have just about enough info on the component speaker.

 

The interesting different between the component speakers and the 2-way co-axial speaker is the for component speakers, you have actually 2 speaker and something called the cross-over. The 2 speakers are the tweeter that handles the high freq sound (singing or treble as some may call it), while the larger speaker will handle the mid-range to low. The cross-over is a device to filter the sound freq from your head unit to either your tweeter of your mid-bass. For your normal stock speaker, usually it is a 2-way coaxial speakers. It is actually 2 speakers using the same axial, like the smaller one on top of the bigger one. Since both speakers are sharing the same axial, sound quality is weaker.

 

Usually the tweeter is mounted in front near the dash board, thus giving you the front stage effect. I personally don't feel right when the sound comes from the back. Anyway, for rear speaker (they call rear fill), some uses 6 x 9 tri-axial speakers as cheap alternative to the sub. Amps might be needed if you need the extra bass, but for me, it sounds fine without the amps. Mine is "Infinity 6000 ref series".

Btw, what type of speaker should i get if i do not want to put tweeters in front and get the "tweeter" effect?

I would want to ask why didn't you want tweeter effect?

If no tweeter, then use co-axial.

Idealy, the high frequencies coming from the tweeters should be at ear level, which gives you better imaging (meaning you can tell from which side a particular musical instrument is being played from). The mid speaker is usually mounted on the door.

 

Usually the tweeter is mounted on the dashboard or for some on the inside of the side mirror or in the A pillar, if you want to drill a hole to mount it in. Some shops make A pillars which are moulded to replace your A pillars and can hold the tweeter.

But the point is if it is not on the dash or above level, you will not be able to get good imaging and therefore good sound.

......You can put it else where...... Some put it on the A-pillar at the edge of your front door. Some around the knee area at the side of your car. But I think the best is the 2 pillars beside your windscreen.

 

If you are asking if you can get the tweeter effect without tweeters, you might as well ask mine how to get sound without speakers.

Just to add, I did heard of tweeters firing into the windows to project a live stage whereby the different instrument seem to come from different angles. As you can see, there are actually dozens of places you can place with different type of tweeters.
