I'm driving a meriva for a year already and i'll try to give you an honest opinion of what i think about my ride:

1) ride quality pretty good as the car is stable maybe because of its heavy curb weight 1.3 tonnes

2) FC quite ok at around 11-12km/L

3) quite underpowered (high kerb weight) if you are on auto but once its on manual...pick up'a quite good (can give other 1.6 saloons a run for their money)

4) IMHO build quality pretty decent with good quality plactics which gives a sturdy feel

5) Overall feel excellent...sturdy, good feel and what i can say its that conti cars handling is really different from most jap & korean cars (my past 2 rides).

just my 2 cents worth [;)]

I'll go for a meriva, cos I'm driving one. [laugh]

Seriously I can't comment on the Colt Plus. I haven't test driven it b4.

The meriva is rated highly in it's class (meriva sort of created this 'class'). It was among the top 3 finalist for last year's european car of the year award. In local context, it's easytronic will take a bit of getting used to. You'll have to re-learn how to drive it otherwise gear change will be gerky. The Meriva is heavy tipping the scale at almost 1,400kg. Built-quaity is typically german and cheap to run.

Can watch the test drive video of the Meriva. Have fun watching. [thumbsup]

Well said siverblade [thumbsup] Just one gripe about the footbrakes though...kinda get a bit squeaky after 15K on the odo...sent it back to AE and after oiling it...the squeaky sound comes back on again...btw...do you know where I can get a rear-roof spoiler, can't find one here except AE which quoted me an exhorbitant price of $3K for the whole works bodykit [jawdrop]

Bodykit is ex. Khai Wai Tyre has another version, but it's ex too...around $500 for parts alone. Heard AE might be bringing in a Thai-made version....a lot cheaper than the german-made ones.

I don't have the foorbrake problem. I have driving it since feb last year and mileage is 26,000km. I am very pleased with AE's aftersales service...very accomodating and polite. Salesperson is also good, at least the one I bought mine from. She still sms me to find out if everything is alright.

i choose Meriva....

Colt Plus look real ugly but must say the interior is not bad, quite nicely built for its class. I think will be tired of the car after 1 or 2 yrs.... as most jap. cars give me the feeling

Meriva is much nicer to look at but car is too heavy for its class, performance also not as good as Colt but a car in this class is for transport rather than racing.... I rather be seen behind a Conti car rather than jap car....

This is what I've done so far since getting the keys last march:

1) changed the exhaust tip the a double-tip at fong kim

2) swapped the OE rims with 15inch TSW rims but kept the OE ContiPremuim tyres

That's all...thought of upgrading to 16 inch wheels next servicing at 30k, also looking for a KNN filter but can't seem to find it anywhere here (part no. 33-2212, what to you think about changing the spark plugs to denso iridium

What 'bout your ride, done any mods? [:)]

So far I have done:-

1) 17" taken over from my previous ride

2) K&N drop in filter (got it from Auto Design); Check K&N europe website for parts no.

3) Momo twin exhaust tip

4) Cruise control (opel; from AE)

5) Fog Lamp (opel; bought from Paris)

Interested in the cruise control & fog lamp ....whow much you got the CC installed at AE? Because last time I enquired at AE, they told me CC not available 4 meriva [dizzy]

I bought the stalk from ebay for under S$70 incl shipping + paid AE $80 for installing and programming. [thumbsup] I think AE charge S$150 for the stalk. I bought my fog lamp for around S$320 from paris.....AE is selling it at around $600 and the whole setup (lamp, switch, harness, etc) for $900. Not worth it in my view.

There are other options like sat nav, HID, etc....but very ex. Opel HID conversion (LTA approved)is around S$2000. [sweatdrop][sweatdrop]

Thanks for the info [thumbsup] I'll probably enquire wif AE about the CC setup again...I guess the whole setup (stalk + installation charges) will cost around $200+...cause the last time I enquired they told me CC only for zafi [rifle]

Thank you all for the reply and the comments on the rides.

I would like to own a conti car again and to be frank the feeling of driving a conti vs a jap car is totally different. No hard feelings towards the jap machine. Its the feel thats is different. But have not let out the jap car yet. Thats why i am still thinkung of the colt also.

Just worried about the resale value and the maintance of opel cars. Herad some unhappy stories about it. I am in sales and one thing to consider is the FC and maintance. But cant have the best of both world. However like the booth sapace of both car as they would give me enough room for expension on my futher plans.

If you have any more input please feel free to highlight to me about the car.

Thanks.

Great to know there are a few Meriva drivers in MCF.

I booked a Meriva two weeks back after hearing reassuring comments from bro Silverblade regarding its reliability. Think it will serve as a good family car for me.

It's a good time to get it now as it is selling below $70k.

I paid close to $80k! [furious][bigcry][bigcry]

But I still happy with it. [thumbsup] Still relatively rare on the road.

Bet you'll be collecting your car soon.
