Grayboo Neutral Newbie January 3, 2002 Share January 3, 2002 hi! i think the aircon is already on-ing and off-ing. wld not really make much diff to the life span of yr aircon compressor. my 2cts worth.
CarFreak Neutral Newbie January 4, 2002 Share January 4, 2002 I installed Power Pass. In fact I have been using a similar product (Ra-Cool) for more than 10 years. If you have an underpowered car, it will save you 10% consumption. Also provide the same pickup as driving without aircon. In the 6 cars I have installed them over the last 15 yrs, I drove 4 cars for at least 3 yrs. I change my compressor only once; that too, it was a Subaru which is known for poor compressors. WaLau Neutral Newbie January 4, 2002 Share January 4, 2002 So how does the power pass works ? it turn off the compressor when reaching certain RPM ? eg 4000rpm etc ???
Ghostrider 3rd Gear January 4, 2002 Share January 4, 2002 So how does the power pass works ? it turn off the compressor when reaching certain RPM ? eg 4000rpm etc ??? The power pass should be the same as the Racool sold here sometime back. What it does is that it disenage the compressor to give your car max power. It does not disenage the fan. Once you ease off the gas, it will resume the compressor duties. Certain cars like the Civic & the Suzuki Swift GTi has this gadget. I used the Racool before & it works & you will see some fuel saving as well....but you have to control your foot lah....dun bcos got more power then just whack....then your fuel saving will be gone. IMHO, if you intend to fix this....assuming that the pass master works the same as racool.......get a addtional switch man....U will want your aircon to be working on a super hot afternoon.......the switch is to bypass the gadget. CarFreak Neutral Newbie January 4, 2002 Share January 4, 2002 It basically a diaphragm switch, activated by change in vacuum. When you stab the pedal, the vacuum reduces to atmopheric pressure and gradually returns to its original vacuum level as the car picks up. The reduction in vacuum causes the Power Pass to activate and cut off the power supply to the aircon clutch, disengaging the compressor. You can set the sensitivity of the device so that it activates at a certain level of foot pressure. Some cars come standard with this device, Honda being one. Turbobrick Neutral Newbie January 4, 2002 Share January 4, 2002 Say for example my car comes with a factory powerpass like device but disengages only above 5000rpm, will installing a powerpass interfere with the factory switch?
CarFreak Neutral Newbie January 4, 2002 Share January 4, 2002 Don't think so, TurboBrick, my Ody is exactly like that.

Pisces69 6th Gear January 4, 2002 Share January 4, 2002 I had it installed on a 1.0Lit datsun 100a n a 1.5lit hyundai excel auto. On the 100a it was quite a nuisance as it kept cutting in/out just as i move off which cause an irritating jerk as that car was underpowered. But it did give a little extra power when needed. No problem with the compressor for the 3 years i owned that car. For the excel 1.5, it was much better, only activating when i accelerated quite hard, like when overtaking & quick pick-ups. Also had no problems with the compressor for the 10 years i drove that car. It works on the principle of vacum from the intake manifold and will cut the ac when a certain level of vacum is reached (normally during hard acceleration) & return when the speed levels off. The passmaster did not have any adjustments so how well it worked depends on the experience of the installer & how well it is installed. I would consider getting it for my corona but dont know where they sell it now. Also fear that the installer dosent do it properly, then must live with if for many years to come. Spinner Neutral Newbie January 4, 2002 Share January 4, 2002 Maybe he did these write ups in exchange for some free adverts on Wheels mag. Did you notice he advertise almost every issue - those vertical ads half page types listing those stuffs that he sells - PBV, Powerpass etc. I bet its sort of a barter agreement between the 2. Also part of the deal will be for Wheels to feature favourably Autodesign's products? Just speculating hor.... Did any of u know that Sylvester from Autodesign writes for Wheels magazine?
