What is the best SP material to use for the firewall?

 

Any one knows where do the best job.

 

If i wish to do it myself.. is that possible?

seriously, dun get overboard with it. to do this, u need to strip off the engine fr the right to reach for the firewall. and the saving is not great.

most important thing abt SP is wat is ur comfort level.

if u switch on ur engine, w/o driving, u should get engine noise abt 50dB.

if u lower ur car window, driving down a desolated place, good tarmac, u may experience noise at abt 60-70dB, gg along highway, it may hit abt 80-100dB if u drive next to a heavy truck.

if u raise ur windows, the reduction for a 3mm plate glass is abt 13dB, so u shave tat figure fr above.

then u consider what is consider loudest, cos based on the rules, the louder sound power will overwhelme the weaker. so say, u hv 2 source of noise, engine at 50dB, truck at 80dB, u will only hear the combined noise level of 80dB + 3dB = 83dB max. if ur window is wound up, u minus 13dB, u will get 70dB.

for this type of noise, there is little u can do. cos it is external source, and u cannot SP the window. thr rules r sound travel in straight line, ur ears r not to window, sound comes thru window. simple as tat.

for tyre noise, u insulate the floorpan, adjacent door, wheel arch, to form a barrier, u may cut down on noise, u will not eliminate tyre noise. simply becos the air gap betw the tyre and weathershield is limited. air is squeezed betw, n revebrates inside, resulting in noise.

brother ur theory very 'zhim" , btw i agree with u , SP can only reduce noise but no eliminate them unless u are dirve in space

Do you have any idea how to do it? Or have heard of people who have done?

 

Cause I have looked at mine, and boy is it hard or what!!! What I read was 1 who did it at the cabin side. Someone wrote about doing it at the engine side, when he changes his engine. Slowly I am testing here and there about taking my car apart, still know know how to do the firewall.

Basically, if you take a look at the Lexus or some luxury car models, you can see the SP done on the exterior of the firewall.

 

This is what i am trying to achieve. My previous ride has it.. but somehow due to cheaper car these day, my conti car does not come with one...

 

Thus, got used to car with Ext Firewall and better SP than my current. So this is one i am exploring way to put at least some insultor to better my SP.

 

i am aiming for no noise... just that to reduce engine noise.

lemme recommend u a cheap no frill way to solve engine noise --> Mobil1 10W50. but it will affect ur FC. in any case, loading wt onto the car will do likewise.

My small cars recommended is 5w-30 or 10w-30. 10w50 a bit high. When my car older, I will try 40's first.

W50 is not really high in tat context. protects engine better. but if u go for W40, can take on fully ester type like Chemlube. tat goes for 25000miles, which last abt 1 year, so u need say 4 oil filter to change at each 10k km interval.

Thanks for the info. I will wait and see how, cause now only just reaching 2nd servicing. Will be using the service center's engine oil.

I got an even cheaper way to reduce noise level.

 

Ear plugs. 50 cent a pair only.

lidat mike as well turn up the ICE volume, 50cts also save.

I guess there are always people giving useless advice like these. Think it is the 3rd or 4th time I see this same thing about ear plugs.
