Anyone Using PHD? Or Other Suggestions for Amp + Components?

PHD speakers - they're all good!

I suppose the FB series, especially the Pro, have more clarity. The MF would have heavier bass.

The FB pro's are quite difficult to drive. We noticed when we matched it to a VRx 2.400 (the high powered 2 x 200W Audison amp), the speakers really shone. It improved quite a bit more when we matched it to a high end Diamond amp. On a lower quality + powered amp, the FB Pro definitely did not realise it's potential.

Ya, glad u know that urself, notice that ur driver seat side console is higher than ur tweetes, thus "blocking" some of the sound. a higher positioning will have better effect.

A pillar tweeter position is one of the best i know of. i also itchy itchy, they do for my friend already, very nice and chio [gorgeous]

me still considering [hur]

hi Kapo, don regret and be happy with what u have, the FB range is harder to drive, in fact i like the MP ranther than FB as it is more reviewling. u got to have at least a 4075 to drive the FB. Cheers! [flowerface]

Hey Kapo,

Wow. A component is so good that he can outgun the underseat-sub. This one must see. Because i always hoping to get good bass in front but my component speaker can't compensate my bass.

Can you share the model of the sub and how big so that we will avoid it next time. BTW, what do you use to drive the sub?

>>Hi, when you say the speaker is warm, does it also compromise the clarity at the lower range? I have tried the various speakers in Jln Jurong Kecil's that shop...the warm was good but lack detailness...can kindly advise? >>

hi bro, think the warmess did indeed compromise details from the higher range, not low. the phd speakers sounds different inside the car, and will really "shine" if a good amp to drive it. tats for the MF, FB range. If have a chance, try Vblaster car, at least u have a better idea. We having a meetup on Sat morn, maybe u like to join us at audioedge?

If u have the chance, check out the AF pro range(cost $1900+-, only 2 sets in town, sold out now [blush] ). It is entirely diffeent level, very minimium compromising, used in ferrari cars stock speakers.

Just got PHD MF 62. Almost make my underseat-sub redundant. It is warm with lots of bass for a 6.5 incher. Have not tried others so cant compare. But paper specs showed it can go down to 35Hz .... Really bring the bass to the front instead of a typical 'bass-behind' setup. A little regret did not get the PHD FB, dunno how it'll sound like in the car ...

Hahaha... the sound already like a pair of home speakers infront of you. As PHD is the manufacturer for many company. That why very low profile in the market. They also keen on their oem business. This is what the shop told me.

You wouldn't regret with what you got.

You must try it inside the car. Totali different spkr. You will happy with the warm sound and the tweeters no sharp at all.i used to try many spkrs for the past in my friend cars. All can't produce this type of Home audio sound.

We always hang around in Audioedge. They just put the demo board as reference to customers.Frankly speaking. i like their prices also. Hahaha...

Hi,

Some ppl associate clarity / detail / transparency with sharpness. So it all depends on individual. I don't like sharp high frequencies from tweeters and I rather lose some details than to have uncomfortable clarity. In fact now I still find my MF62 a bit harsh on the tweeters, probably because yet too run in. Of all the demo speakers in Audioedge, I like the FB best. But to some, those lack details. Well, individual preference. Best is listen for yourself. But be warned, the sound in car is not exactly the same as on demo .... maybe because I'm using cheapo Clarion amp [:p]

Not really outgun the underseat-sub, but almost. You still need the sub to enhance the bass, thus improve the overall low end without being too boomy. I'm using a Pioneer underseat sub. Not sure the model. The most useful feature about this sub is that you can control bass volume, low pass freq and phase on a small remote. No need to adjust from below. Good for quick adjustment for different music. Quite good as it vibrates your seat as well, literally feeling the bass [;)] The bass is not as powerful as I had before using boxes, but is better in sound quality. Don't expect loud booms, this sub cannot take it ...

Thanks mate. I'm happy lah.. save $300 compared to getting FB ... and you're right, I'm using a low end Clarion 4 channel amp so probably not worth to get the FB.

Yep, thanks, happy with what I have. But I notice I can't leave the sound as flat with no adjustment. Need to use the HU's sound enhancement features to bring out the sound. Unlike those demo speakers in Audioedge, everything flat still sound good [dizzy]

My setup : Toyota Wish

1. Clarion 946 (outgoing model, replaced by 956) - $680

2. Clarion 4 channel amp, not sure the model $280 [:p]

3. MF62 front - $480

4 1 layer Dynamat for front doors. Workmanship excellent $150 [thumbsup]

5. No brand coaxial speakers rear - $60

6. Pionner underseat sub, not sure model again .... - $350

Total $2K ... heart pain.. even home sound system dont spend so much [:p]

Probably you can go Audioedge and meet up the rest first. I can't for the next 2 weeks cos got exam.

Inside the car is totali different. It will be must more clear than what you listen inside their showsroom. And no need to tune. Just run flat will do. i was suprised with it. PHD really is the speaker manufacturer.

Think u better change to Audison SRX series to run your speaker. Better than Clarion a lot. Serious. i listen to this STINGER car with the SRX set up. Really good.
