Mazda2SP: what's the difference?

Was reading the ads yesterday on the new Mazda 2 SP and thought I'd do a quick check before I leave for the office this morning.

 

1. MZR 1.5L engine: is this different from the normal Mazda 2?

2. Pricing for this model?

3. Authorised model right, not by PI?

1. Its the engine (better than the orinigal Mz2 engine) used by Ford (same as Mz3 etc)... but 1500cc...

I understand they change the engine block to aluminium so its now has a lighter engine, which is 2.2kg less.

 

The price is $62,988.

 

However, the main difference is the ActiveMatic gearbox. I went for a test drive on Sunday and found the overall handling to be OK.

 

The steering is not electrically powered which is said to save on fuel. Its definitely lighter than the hydralic steering on the M2 and will take some getting used to as you do have lesser 'feedback' from the steering. I was told the steering would get heaiver as you go faster. I approached 100kph during my test drive and could feel a bit of that so I think if you go faster than that, the steering would be more responsive.

$62k seems pricey for a 1.5L, but the power-to-weight ratio seems very attractive.

 

And on power steering: my understanding is that electric steering saves fuel, because it utilises electricity from the battery, while hydraulic steering uses fuel to turn the power on ... so I have some doubts on Mazda's claims there.

1) engine is the same....but fine tune for optimum performance.

whole gearbox changed to sports activematic transmission.....EPAS system(electric power sterring assist steering system) old stock FC = 14km/L. current Mazda2SP can do better!!! most powerful 1.5L NA Car in town. (111 hp)

 

2) $62,988 (including full bodykits,15'sports rims,fog lamps,roof spoiler,reverse sensor,alarm,6 disc front loading changer,etc)

It's a really good car...my only gripe is that the built-in headunit should have mp3 capability...Cd changer also not so useful nowadays.

read somewhere that the 111 horses does not really produce the desired results? cuz the paper stated it's 0-100 is something like a 13 sec?

I also agree with you on this. For 62K, I really expect this to be standard. And becos its factory fitted, it is difficult to change to one with HU and still have that work with your steering wheel audio control. And even if its possible, I expect it to be costly. So unless you are seriously a ICE freak, u will just live with it.

probably the same engine as the PI 1.5L Mazda 3.

 

not sure how true, but they said that the hp of the PI version is based on higher Japanese quality fuel (RON100?)
