  1. FOR half an hour yesterday morning, two overseas passengers were suspended mid-air in the Singapore Flyer. But that may not have been such a bad situation - after all, they had extra time to enjoy the view of the city. A Singapore Flyer spokesman said it had to suspend operations for about 30 minutes due to a technical glitch at around 9am yesterday. A ride on the 165m-tall wheel - about 42 storeys high - typically takes half an hour, and each capsule can take up to 28 people. It is not clear how far the passengers were into their ride before the incident happened, and details on who they were and where they were from were not available. Once the glitch occurred, the spokesman said that measures were promptly taken to ensure the two passengers were aware of the situation through a two-way intercom system. Every capsule is equipped with the system, which is linked to the control room, allowing passengers and the control room personnel to communicate. There are also surveillance cameras installed in every capsule. The Singapore Flyer said its maintenance contractor found a minor fault in the braking system. The attraction resumed operations by mid-morning. After they were safely off the Flyer, the two passengers were offered a complimentary flight and a meal each. Adults ride for $29.50 on the wheel, while children aged 3 to 12 ride for $20.65. Other passengers who went on it later said that things went smoothly. Ms Cheryl Tay, 40, a music teacher, was informed that the wheel had stopped earlier that morning when she arrived at 10am. But she did not think about changing her plans to get on the ride as she was 'confident in the quality of the maintenance staff'. She boarded the Flyer at around 11.30am with her mother and her sons, aged 5 and 3. She said: 'If I were stuck with other adults, I'd just make the most of the situation and enjoy the view. 'But I might not have enjoyed it as much if I were stuck there with my children, as they may become a little anxious.' Another passenger, Mrs Agnes Lee, 29, who was there with her family, said with a laugh: 'As long as they don't leave us hanging there for one hour, I wouldn't be worried!' -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Watch F1 night races on Flyer, with champagne STILL fretting about where you can catch the action during the Formula One night race come 26 Sep? You can get on board the Singapore Flyer, because around 80 per cent of the circuit will be visible to spectators. Mr Steven Yeo, general manager of Singapore's newest attraction, said in a media release yesterday that the company is launching a new ticket category - the Champagne Flight (Individual) - for those who wish to witness this historic event. Tickets for rides from 26 Sep to 28 Sep will range from $150 to $500 per person, depending on the time slots in the day, starting from 10am to 11pm. Ticket holders will also enjoy premium champagne, strawberries and chocolates during their ride. The pricing for the basic tickets will remain unchanged for rides from 10am to 2pm on the three race days. More ticket categories will be available at Singapore Flyer for the race weekend and details will be released soon.
