was going to go down Yap Bros yesterday afternoon to change my 195/60/R15 Bridgestones to the Yokko ES100 went down there at lunch, damn shop closed checked with Leong Seng uncle, he said $95 a tyre. and as usual he had complete disregard for my current tyres and refused to offer any trade-in for them. then drove around the East area, most shops closed, found a shop near Joo Chiat Road that had Yoko stickers all over the front, went in but they didn't have stock for the ES100s. then after checking a bit, he said he could give me $90 (including trade-in) of my tyres, but must order and collect tomorrow. so I passed and went around some more, went to a few other shops that asked for $130 a tyre without trade-in..and was pretty pissed by then (was it so difficult to trade-in my 3month old tyres for new ES100s?) then as a last resort, went down to Jalan Jurong Kechil (rememberering somebody mentioning this funny guy "ah siao" who sold his stuff damn cheap) went to the first shop, friendly enough, and they offered $130 a tyre, plus $25 trade-in for my tyres..still >$100. argh. THEN, went down to the last shop there, really run-down looking place, asked the guy working how much 195/55/R15 ES100s would cost and he's a real funny fella. was muttering something like "don't have, 185, 175, yah yah" I said "195 no stock?" he replied "don't have. 185, yah, yah, 175, yah" then he went to talk to other customers..I couldn't help but notice everyone there had this bemused expression watching the guy. After waiting for another 5min or so while he was muttering (incoherently?) to other customers, I asked again. and this time he said "got got" I asked how much including trade in and he said $200. that was a ridiculous price and I jumped at it!...but after waiting around some more, he finally went in to check again and came out and told me $320..ie. ~$80 a tyre, and after searching and driving around for the past 3h, I was too tired to protest. all the while he was changing my tyres, I was watching him carefully, hoping he wouldn't damage my new Superlegs, making doubly-even-triply sure he got the right tyres (i can't remember how many times I looked at my tyres, to see that they were the right spec and the right model man), that they fit properly, were installed properly etc etc..and thankfully everything checked out pretty good! in summary, Lian Kiat Alloy Tyre & Battery Centre: amusing, but not the most confidence-inspiring guy running the place, BUT probably a good place to get a bargain!
