Toyota cleared of the unintended acceleration issue debacle
Rigval posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
After a 10 month long investigation the US Transport Secretary announced that Toyota vehicles are safe to drive. This statement basically clears Toyota of the unintended acceleration claims that caused cars like the USDM Camry and the Corolla to accelerate out of control. This was something I seem to have known for awhile now as I haven't heard anyone in this region that faced this problem. Mr Ray LaHood, Transport Secretary added that the lengthy investigation found no electronic cause or faults that could cause certain Toyota vehicles to suffer from unintended acceleration. It could be down to car mats getting stuck under the accelerator pedal or human error instead of supposed faults to the car's Drive-by-wire accelerator setup. Maybe Americans wear size 12 shoes. Whatever the reason, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is still considering new regulation to improve safety on new cars. These regulation additions may require manufacturers to fit brake override systems, keyless ignition as standard and car data recorders (like those on airplanes). In short, more gadgets in our cars and more cost passed down to us. If this happens, we know who to blame for our cars getting more and more complicated
