actually come to think of it, i'm using M1. sony ericsson phone. sometimes when i go to some places in singapore the display on the phone will show my location. for example if i'm taking train when i reach city hall station, it will show 'city hall stn' on my display, just below the service provide logo. or if i'm out on the streets, like some places it will show 'XXX street' or 'XXX building'. do u guys have this also?

i did not subscribe to any special service from M1, but i realize when they show the location on my phone, one of the indicator (the indicator beside the signal strength 5 bars thing) will disappear. then when the indicator come on again, the location shown on my phone will disappear. is it something to do with availability of 3G networks in some places?

hmmm....technically and logically, it should not be possible because you have not logged into any Australian mobile network yet. So the voice message should be coming from your Singapore operator and not the Optus operator. Beats me too [:/]

Yes, this technology is not new. In fact, we have implemented this for other countries (our neighbours [:p] ) few years back already. Looking at the poll result, it explains why SG is kinda slow in this particular service. Most SG operators are not keen to launch this kinda service. When I talked to Singtel earlier on, I understand that their main target is for parents monitoring children and corporate ppl. [:p]

Yap, thats whats i'm talking about. It will show the name of the base station you are currently connected. Eg. train station names, street name, block numbers or name of buildings.

I'm also on M1.

all along, hps have this function what [laugh]

if they want to, they can easily trace your location even if you don't make a call or send a message.

in some JB shopping centres, my hp will display my current location (that is, that shopping centre)

nothing to be paranoid about. if one is marked, one cannot escape anyway [dead]

At least yours may be a bit useful if your phone don't have the function to display "Missed Call" laugh.gif

M1 have those practically useless type of service that is included in new line or re-contract.. Things called bye bye ring ring.. what has it got to do with me whether the caller listen to music or normal ring ring when waiting for me to answer the call.. hur.gif

hmmm....i am one of those who has subscribed to M1 bye-bye ring ring tone. The reason why i subscribed to this because i do not want some callers (my customers) to know if i am in singapore or overseas. Of course others who have subscribed to are mostly youngsters and for them to "personalised" their ring back tone.

Park the car at city area and leave the phone inside.

Say got urgent meeting.

Then take taxi to geyland lor.....lol.

if the phone is off will they still detect your location

especially for some bros that appear to frequent Geylang for their fine cuisine
