Sunday Times journalist Gavin Conway has set a world record by driving a Volkswagen Passat 1,531 miles (2464 km) on a single tank of fuel from Maidstone, England to Calais.
The Passat was fitted with VW's1.6 TDI (105 PS/ 250Nm) diesel engine with BlueMotion technology that includes a stop/start system for improved fuel-economy. The car on test was a standard production model with no modifications made.
Conway used exactly 77.25 liters of diesel fuel on the drive which translate to a fuel

-Uwe Gemballa, founder of Gemballa Automobiletechnik, poses with the Porsche Gemballa Avalanche GTR-650 EVO (997 Turbo) during its South East Asia launch in Singapore, July 31, 2008.
Another photo unveiling at the Paris Motor Show was the Range Rover Evoque in 5 door form. The car, which somehow looks like an enlarged Mini Countryman to me was officially confirmed by Land Rover at the official preview of the 3 door Evoque and after a photograph of it was leaked on the internet. This was amid a seemingly never ending glamorous previews, launchings and unveils of Lamborghinis, Lotuses, Jaguars and so many more.
The Evoque 5 door will have the same engine specs of the 3 doo

Ford introduced its rally dedicated Fiesta RS WRC at the Paris Auto Show.
Built around a 1.6-liter EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the Fiesta RS WRC likely milks something north of 400 horsepower from its tiny displacement, though Ford hasn't announced the official output specs. The jump to the smaller engine is driven by the WRC's adoption of Super 2000 rules for 2011, which mandates a maximum displacement of 1.6 liters. Design by Ford of Europe with help from rally partner M-Sp
Although ZOE sounds like COE, they are entirely different. One is a piece of paper while the other is an electric vehicle in the making.
Following last year's ZOE Z.E. coupe, Renault took the opportunity at the Paris Show to show off the ZOE, which presents a more realistic look at the production version that will be available in 2012. Wearing Renault's newest face, it may also preview the next Clio as well.
Similar in size to the Clio, this little electric automobile gets some high-end

Lotus surprised us by unveiling the 2015 Elise at the Paris Motor Show.
Available as a coupe and roadster (the Exige name will apparently be dropped), the new Elise features shark-inspired styling, floating taillights, and a variety of carbon fiber components. Furthermore, thanks to a longer extruded aluminum chassis, entry and egress should be vastly improved.
Power is provided by a supercharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine which produces around 320 hp. Paired to a robotized manual tran
Audi have come up with a quattro Concept car celebrating the 30th anniversary of the original Audi quattro. The Ur-quattro, the first production Audi with all-wheel drive and most importantly the first rally car that took advantage of the regulations allowing all-wheel drive to be used mainly in the World Rally Championship. This car managed to win a whole lot of races and championships, both in Group A form and the more radical Group B form. Short, stubby wheelbase and all. Now, Audi have come
This year's edition of the Paris show will see the VW Group's Skoda brand unveiling its first-ever electric-powered vehicle called the Octavia Green E Line. Skoda says it is planning to create a special test fleet of Octavias Green E Line in 2011 with the goal of obtaining additional information relevant to the further development of the electric drive.
The concept model is based on the Octavia Combi and is powered by an electric motor delivering a constant power of 80-hp with a maximum out
Jaguar has lifted the lid on the new Jaguar C-X75 concept supercar. The concept could become Jaguar's first mega performance vehicle since the cancellation of the XJ220 in 1994.
When Jaguar introduces the supercar at the Paris Motorshow, they will drop a bombshell. The car will race to 300 km/h n 15.7 seconds, over a second faster than the Bugatti Veyron. However, where the Veyron continues on to 407 km/h, the C-X75 tops out at 330 km/h. The concept uses four 195-horsepower electric moto
It is absolutely amazing to wake up in the morning, open up your email and receive news from Lamborghini on the unveiling of their latest concept car at the Paris Motor Show (Aside from actually being there, that is). This time, Lamborghini have called their concept car the Sesto Elemento, or Sixth Element (in the periodic table, carbon is the sixth element, hence its name). This car is about the size of a Gallardo but weighs an amazing 999kg - A whole kilogram below 1000kg and an amazing 341kg
Here are some snapshots of the new Saab 9-4X crossover in production form, before its LA Auto Show debut in November.
While nothing is official yet, the 9-4X engine lineup should include a 180-hp 1.6-liter Turbo, a 220-hp 2.0-liter Turbo, and a 2.0-liter turbo diesel. A 300-hp 2.8-liter V6 may also show up, and we can expect transmissions to be 6-speed manual or automatic in a front- or all-wheel drive layout.
From the photos, the new Saab crossover looks to stay fairly true to the 9-4X
The next generation of Saab models may very well be powered by BMW engines if negotiations between the two automakers are successful. Following widespread media speculations on the matter, Spyker N.V., the parent company of the Swedish carmaker confirmed talks with BMW.
Here's the official statement:
"Spyker Cars N.V. ("the Group"), a holding company that owns subsidiaries which produce and sell premium automobiles under the Saab and Spyker brands, has noted recent press speculation abou
Red Devil is the name German tuning firm Wimmer RS chose for its latest take on the Volkswagen Golf R. The word 'Red' is selected because of the color for the car. The word 'Devil' represents the sinister punch under the hood of the Golf R.
In stock form, the all-wheel drive Golf R rolls out of VW's factory with a 2.0-liter TFSI producing 270-hp and 350Nm of maximum torque. After Wimmer RS's engineers perform their magic, those numbers increased to a whopping 478-hp and 610Nm. The extra powe
Lamborghini and Swiss luxury watchmaker Blancpain have come up with a special edition of Lamborghini's Gallardo. This is in conjunction with the successful pairing up in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo one make racing series featuring the Lamborghini Gallardo. The new special edition car is called the Gallardo LP570-4 Blancpain Edition. A mouthful, but a nice mouthful nonetheless.
This latest Gallardo takes the essence or the spirit of the Super Trofeo Gallardo race car and makes it r
Okay. The results for the Formula 1 Grand Prix, Singapore. Fernando Alonso of Ferrari wins. Sebastian Vettel comes in second and his team mate in the other Red Bull, Mark Webber was third. The Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix started off nicely without a pile up. This is good as we all know the fact that this race is run like Monaco, a street circuit and the starting grid was led by Fernando Alonso, Seb Vettel, Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button and Mark Webber. However, this changed when Force India's
Ferrari have released photos and specification of their latest roadster, the SA APERTA. This car is basically a Ferrari 599 with a fancy name and a lack of a roof, if one were being less tactful in explaining it.
The SA APERTA, while quite strangely named to the English speaking public is actually quite straightforward. The 'SA' is an acronym for Sergio and Andrea Pininfarina while 'Aperta' is Italian for 'open', for the open top of this new Ferrari. It sounds so different and glamorous in
AC Schnitzer is a long time BMW specific tuner and they have been doing BMWs for as long as I can remember. In the early 1990s I used to love looking at BMWs with those AC Schintzer alloys on those E30s, E34s and E36s. They look really good. And speaking of the grandchild of the E34 5 series, the F10, AC Schnitzer have come up with their upgrades for the latest BMW mid range saloon.
Now AC Schnitzer is not about alloy wheels and bodykits. While this is the stuff that flies through their cata
Previewing a possible expansion to the world of two wheels in the very near future, Daimler's Smart division will showcase a scooter concept at the Paris motor show. The electrically driven 'escooter' uses a 48-volt lithium-ion battery pack placed behind the paneling in the foot area and is capable of traveling up to 100 kilometers on a single charge.
The company says the batteries can be fully recharged through any standard household power socket within three to five hours. The charging soc
