The 1930s Bugattis Type 57SC Atlantic is the worlds most expensive car

A very rich museum has made the 1930s Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic the world's most expensive car ever sold. The Mullin Automotive Museum located in Oxnard, California must have some fantastic benefactors as they spent between US$30 and $40 million on a Type 57SC Atlantic at the Gooding Classic Car Auction on May 5th 2010 . The previous record was for a 1960s Ferrari GTO that a British buyer bought from Lee Kun-Hee, the former CEO and Chairman of Samsung Electronics.   The Type 57S and the 57SC

4 door Ferrari to appear...in your dreams

Ferrari has no plans at all to produce a four-door model, according to a story published by Autocar. CEO Amedeo Felisa was quoted saying that his company will "never do four doors." Ferrari founder Enzo would apparently not approve of such a car anyway. It just isn't part of the company's long heritage.   Despite its staunch stance on the four-door issue, the supercar maker is gearing up for a hybrid powertrain launch in the near future. Felisa explained that hybrids are being produced to sat

Alfa Romeo appears to be on a celebration spree this year. Aside from the year-long festivities to commemorate the firm's 100th birthday, the Italian automaker is now celebrating the 60th anniversary of its historic 1-2-3 finish at the first ever F1 European Championship race, which was held at Silverstone motor racing circuit sixty years ago.   To celebrate, the company photographed one of the rare 158s, which competed in this historic race alongside the latest Alfa to bear the motorsport in

Track Day and a very wet Time Attack Event in Sepang

Last Sunday (9th May 2010) marked an event held for the 10th anniversary of a pretty famous Malaysian based website called Zerotohundred.com. Together with High Performance Challenge (HPC), they had organized a time attack shootout at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) dubbed Time To Attack: Sepang. The event was scheduled right after the HPC track day held in the morning and the turnout for both events were pretty great in light of the rain that was almost continuous since 11.45am till abou

Diehard BMW fan

Talk about a diehard BMW fan, we have got one here. When Joanne Marsh's husband Steve passed away at the age of 51, she wanted to honor him with a headstone he would be proud to rest under. Nicknamed "BMW Steve," it was only natural that Joanne and her two children should look for a BMW-inspired sculpture.   The family found a Chinese exporter who is willing to build a scale-model BMW M3 convertible, Steve's favorite, completely from granite. The model cost

Aftermarket brake override for Toyotas

With all the news reports regarding unintended acceleration in Toyotas in recent months, it was only a matter of time before an aftermarket company stepped up with a purported solution. Santa Barbara-based Solutions Group Inc. is now marketing a device called the Decelerator, which they claim provides a brake override to prevent the car from taking off on the driver.   According to the CEO of Solutions Group, Mr Sean O'Neil, the device is another box of electronics that can intercept and modi

A...erm...yellow HOT Ferrari?

This pic looks like a Hot Wheels toy advertisement. You know, the Ferrari was going so fast it caught on fire? =oP   Ferrari it seems have been hogging the limelight lately. Unfortunately for all the wrong reasons. Just a couple of months back, a Ferrari F430 decided to make a large tree its hood ornament after its owner took it for an early morning spin (literally) along Nicoll Highway. Now, another F430 has made the headlines. Barely two weeks back, a bright Giallo Modena Ferrari F430 Spider

Formula 1 at Barcelona: Mark Webber wins from pole position

It seems the three weeks break has done wonders for Red Bull as Mark Webber gets his first win of the 2010 season. He started from pole position and steamed ahead of his team mate Sebastian Vettel at the start of the Spanish F1 Grand Prix at the Catalunya Circuit in Barcelona. The race was basically pretty straightforward as there was no overtaking on the track whatsoever. Fernando Alonso of Ferrari was second (to the delight of Spanish fans as he's Spanish) and third was Sebastian Vettel.   I

A front wheel drive Audi that drives well: Audi A4 1.8 TFSI

Did you know that it basically took Audi 126.5 million years to finally agree with everyone alive that having a tall 4,6 or 8 cylinder engine set up high and way in front of the front axle does not do wonders to the handling of their front wheel drive sedans? Having driven the current A6, the previous generation A4 (B7 series) as well as the earlier ones too, I have to say that massive understeer is the preferred way for these front wheel drive Audis to corner.   On the B7 A4 I remember drivi

3 Cylinder Volkswagen Polo gets more miles than that Toyota hybrid

Nowadays is either Hybrids or Diesels and Volkswagen, our friendly neighborhood car manufacturer, has taken economy and green a small step further by launching the latest Polo Bluemotion TDI. The small step taken is the fact that it has chopped off one cylinder from the four cylinder diesel and it is only 1.2 liters in size. This was recently paraded recently at the 31st International Vienna Motor Symposium.   1.2liters, diesel, a turbo and three cylinders makes 74bhp and about 180Nm at 2,00

Benz by Binz: The new E-class limousine

A Benz by a company called Binz. Ironic isn't it? Mercedes Benz has collaborated once again with coach builders Binz, the company from Lorch in Germany for their latest mid-sized limousine based on the new W212 E-Class sedan. Some of you may be unaware but Mercedes Benz always produced these 4 and 6 door mid-sized limousines since the W110 "fintail" series of the late 1960s, mostly with Binz. These long wheelbase E-Classes were produced mainly with 6 doors and 3 rows of seats, mainly for chauff

The horse, cycling and the motorcycle as alternatives to the car

So with major concern towards the environment, changes are happening to the motoring public. The promotion of hybrid cars, electric cars, fuel efficient petrol and diesel cars as well as eco-friendly supercars. But say you still think that motorcars are what's causing global warming and you'd like to contribute less towards this. What could be done about it aside from walking more, taking the MRT, buying or converting your car to run on NGV, buy a hybrid, drive like Mother Theresa or just stay h

The iPhone GPS Shootout

Have you ever wondered whether your iPhone can replace your full-sized car GPS set?   Well, the default Maps app that comes with your phone would hardly come close. With limited search parameters, the need for 3G connectivity and the lack of a voiced turn-by-turn navigation function, it is at best a map with GPS functionality. Good enough to figure out where you are, but not quite capable of directing you from one place to another like a proper GPS.   If you want some thing that comes a li

Another Hummer look-a-like: The Renault Sherpa 2

[extract] I wrote about the Dartz Prombron earlier, a Russian Hummer-like vehicle that costs a bomb and one that uses exotic whale penis leather for the owners to sit on and feel kinky while doing so. I also mentioned that Hummer shaped vehicles are now dime a dozen and there are look-a-likes from China and Europe. Here is one I saw at a Defense Exhibition held in Kuala Lumpur recently. The Renault Sherpa 2. It looks very

The Citroen Nemo fails the elk test

To those who intend to purchase a Citroen Nemo or a Peugeot Bipper Tepee do consider asking one or two important questions; does it come with ESP and if it does not, is there an option to get it fitted? This is because the Nemo when subjected to the elk test turned turtle.   The ADAC, which is Germany's Automobile Association and Which? Magazine conducted a group test on the mechanically similar Fiat Qubo, Peugeot Bipper Tepee and the Citroen Nemo Multispace. The elk test conducted meant that

Hummer may be dead, but we now have the Dartz Prombron

We've all been reading or have heard about that not really important fact that Hummer, the non-military version, is closing its doors for good. The very famous military based SUV used by movie-stars, rap artists as well as people who have a lot of money but little taste is wrapping up all production and will close its doors forever, hopefully. General Motors to date have not found any buyers and as it sold less than a couple of thousand vehicles worldwide last year, they have decided to cut the

Audi joins the Superlight Club with the R8 GT

Like most performance car manufacturers these days, losing those extra kilos in their flagship coupe showcases their abilities to build a more serious out and out coupe than the base model, which has to cater to a wider audience and is still built to a certain budgeted cost. Manufacturers like Porsche have long known this and you can see in their 911 series of cars. You have the basic Carerra which becomes the Carerra S, which then morphs into the GT3, which then becomes the GT3 RS. Each model s

Is there a point in fast cars in Singapore?

Singaporeans are a pretty practical bunch. It is hardly a surprise that certain car marques associated with reliability, fuel economy and resale value dominate our best seller list. We go for the safe bet; the choice that makes sense to us numerically. And so, I am often met with a puzzled look when I explain that the most important attribute for me when car shopping is power (both bhp and torque) or when I tell people that my hobby is modifying my ride to go that little bit faster. Inevitably,
