Former F1 driver, Alex Zanardi, has won a Paralympic gold medal in paracycling with a timing of 24:50.22. Upon victory, the Italian celebrated by sliding out of his cycle and lifting it over his head with one hand and the other punching into the air.

Alex Zanardi is a person who doesn't bow down to setbacks. About 11 years ago, Zanardi was competing in a CART race in Lausitz, Germany when a horrific accident claimed his pair of legs besides loosing over 70% of his blood before he got to the hospital. He was in coma for three days and his heart stopped more than once.

After the accident, Zanardi learnt how to use prosthetic legs.

"You don't know how many times I fell just taking ridiculous small steps. It was bloody hard," he told the BBC.

He took up paracycling later on to keep himself fit. Zanardi began to compete in the sport in 2007 at the New York City marathon when he was invited to attend the event's pasta party. He decided that if he was going, he should take part. He came in fourth in the race and subsequently came in first in 2011 at the same event.

Zanardi's journey to Paralympic gold was not easy too. He crashed his favorite bike a few weeks before the actual race. I hope Zanardi

  • A 20-year journey, an old passion rekindled

For us 90s babies, the Holy Trinity of Disney Channel, Nickelodeon, and Cartoon Network formed a big part of our childhood. The internet was just about coming into fruition, with the rise of a plethora of websites with numerous entertaining flash games and of course, the early days of YouTube. And though those things have come and gone, one thing in my life remained constant: My love for Pokemon. I first got into Pokemon 20 years ago, and I remember exactly how it went down. Let me set the

Motorcycle riding is a sensory experience beyond the exhaust

Riding a motorcycle is like taking your nose on a wild adventure. You're cruising down the road, expecting to smell nothing except exhaust fumes and perhaps rubbish, when suddenly - bam! - you're hit with the mouthwatering aroma of sizzling char kway teow from a nearby coffeeshop. Heck, you might even catch a whiff of someone's fancy perfume as you zip by. It's like your bike has magical powers, transforming an ordinary ride into a sensory rollercoaster. It's these unexpected olfactory deli

Journey to the West: First Steps in Southwestern China, Pt. 2

Note: Click here to read Pt. 1, where the journey began in Hong Kong. NEXT UP: CHONGQING Day 3, cont.: Dad had decided on the scenic route to Chongqing - train. We did not realise that the immigration process at the Hong Kong Kowloon West station involved both the Hong Kong and Chinese authorities, so we found ourselves in a rush to board the train (we boarded minutes before the scheduled departure). Through the eight-hour journey, the passing sights made me realise the diversity

The fun in collecting postcards without (really ever) sending them

I believe I may not be alone when I say that I’m quite the avid collector of postcards, but rarely ever send them out to family or friends. To some, this might seem counterintuitive, even wasteful. But for me, these miniature works of art serve a different purpose. They're windows into distant lands; time capsules of bygone eras; and conversation starters par excellence. In fact, in a city as fast-paced as Singapore, where our lives often revolve around our vehicles and the next destination
