blogentry-114362-0-42726500-1404968321_thumb.jpgSingapore will soon boast a world-class 950-metre karting track capable of hosting world championships. The international-standard track at the Singapore Turf Club (STC) grounds at Woodlands will be completed by mid-September 2014.

The new circuit will be built by Arina International Holding. It will be the second karting track here, after the opening of the 750m Kartright Speedway in Jurong in 2010.

The site at Jurong, however, is unable to host international championships as the sport’s world governing body CIK-FIA’s regulations require that competition tracks are at least 800m in length.

The Turf Club leased the plot of land to Arina in April for three years at a cost of S$450,000, with an option for another 3.

Arina is headed by Mr Richard Tan, who has been running the KF1 Corporate Challenge karting event — usually held a week before the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix — here since 2011.

Mr Tan declined to be interviewed, but it is believed he aims to get the track ready before this year’s Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix, which takes place from Sept 19 to 21.

Richard operates a construction company and the only major works needed to get the facility ready on time are building the paddock area and resurfacing the track. It will cost Mr Tan about S$1.5 million on top of land cost.

Whats the rates for go-karting like in SG?

Many of my friends visit Plentong for karting. If the rates in SG become comparable, then no more need to travel so far.

The only place I ever tried Go-Kart was in JB & Batam... If theres a reasonably priced one in Singapore will def bring my kids there... My only gripe - dirty helmet cushions. Heck..if there's Go-Kart in SG I tink I bring my own helmet there liao... lol...

if u think batam and jb cheap, go surabaya, go kart indoor for 5 min cost only 50k rupiah, the cheapest ever played and its fast.

  • Far Cry: A journey over two decades (PART ONE)

I first came across the first-ever Far Cry game in the now-popular series back in 2004, the year of its launch. I was eight and wandering around the “Toys & Games” section in a department store (I believe it was Takashimaya) and the cover caught my eye. I’ve always been drawn towards First-person Shooter (FPS) games, and I thought I’d give it a try. Thus, I got my parents to buy it for me, and the second we got home, I loaded it up. Back in the day, CDs were still very much the norm, an

In life, there is no pleasure without pain

Before anything else, let me assure you that this is not about BDSM (bondage, discipline, sadism, masochism). Like many of my posts, this is an observation about life. More specifically, the duality of pain and pleasure that exists within it. Let's consider the analogy of light and dark: A room seems bright because the darkness subdued. Yet without the presence of darkness, how do we perceive the brightness of the light? Similarly, we cannot savour the sweetness of pleasure without the

Tennis: Beautiful game that doesn't know how to count

Wimbledon just concluded yesterday (congrats Sinner!), and it's a reminder of how much I enjoy tennis as a sport. I used to play it some (wasn't particularly good), and still tangentially follow it nowadays (the Roland Garros final this year between Alcaraz and Sinner is an all-time classic).  There's something intrinsically mesmerising about the sport, I think even for spectators who have never picked up a racquet. At first glance, it may seem like just two people (or four, but doubles is

    Movile Cave: Aliens on Earth

Picture this: a subterranean hideaway so exclusive, it's been sealed off from the outside world for a cool 5.5 million years. Yep, the Movile Cave is a strange alien universe right here on Earth, tucked underneath the Romanian coast.  It may be just 20 metres below ground, but the Movile Cave is about as alien an environment as you will find anywhere on Earth. With no interference from the plebeian air that we breathe and light that we see, the cave instead is a concoction of sulphuric
