Toyota's Plug-in Hybrid version of the Prius has just set a record-breaking economy run around the 20.6km Nurburgring Nordschleife with a figure of 698mpg. This equates to an astonishing 296.75km/L. Yup, this is no typo.

While the official figure in the brochure says it can do 57km/L (which is also a very impressive figure on its own), it manages to return almost 300km/L because the 1.8-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine engages only once while negotiating a long uphill climb during the lap.

blogentry-133713-0-23942500-1405500989_thumb.jpgOK, a 20 minute and 59 second lap time is not going to impress any petrolhead but knowing your car only consumed less than five tablespoons of fuel while not going lower than the track specified minimum average speed of 60km/h probably might.

The car used for the run received no special treatment except for the uprated springs, lightweight 18-inch wheels, sports bumpers all round and a rear spoiler; all available off the shelf from TRD (Toyota Racing Development). It was also wearing low resistance tyres and was fully charged before setting off. Watch the clip below to see how they managed the amazing feat.

OMFG!!!!! What the hell is a hybrid doing on the Nurburgring. A car this embarrassing shouldn't even be there. The prius looks like crap, drives like crap and is not meant to burn fuel anyway. So this doesn't impress me. Tell me about a petrol engine being efficient and running down this track a high speed and I'll be impressed.

A prius is meant for an environmentalist. I'm not one and I like my petrol burning engine.

Oh shit is this comment gonna be deleted?

The Prius went to the wrong place lah.

It should go to Resort World Sentosa basement carpark. Spacious and level road all around. No hills, it's perfect for the Prius.

  • 10 terrible wedding songs

A song can have a catchy title and/or chorus, but its true meaning is only found within its lyrics. If you're planning your wedding, any song about breakups, cheating/infidelity, and being the other woman has no business being part of the reception playlist. Most people, however, take the song title to be its meaning and don't consider its actual content. Here are 10 songs that sound romantic but should be avoided. 10) Irreplaceable – Beyoncé Don't mistake this for being

Challenging myself to a week without coffee or sweetened drinks

Sometimes, the key to spicing up your life can take a very simple and mundane form. Or in the case of a challenge I embarked on in early-July, a bland and literally tasteless one. Feeling sometime in mid-June that I had been swept up too mindlessly by the push-and-pull of the everyday, and seeing that I *had* to reclaim some sense of agency with the way I lived, I eventually decided: I would allow myself only water as a drink. I'm pretty sure Yakun and Toast Box lost a fair bit o

This should be the true Singaporean national dish

Singapore is known to be a melting pot of different cultures, races, people and of course, cuisines from all over the world. You can probably find food from most places here in Singapore, but we also have some dishes that we like to think of as our national dish - okay, google says there isn't an officially declared national dish, but Chicken Rice is one of those that's often mentioned. Yes, we all love Chicken Rice, but it isn't really unique to Singapore.... Nasi Lem
