Hi Hyun,

<oyston Tan himself actually sang one of the songs.. the one about "hang zheng pai" (bad economy). think he might have appeared cameo in the movie as well, but can't remember cos i didn't know how he looked like in real life until yesterday>>

There are only 2 songs track 9: Bad Times and Track 10: Lose Control are sung by Duet Li Pei Fen and Chen Xiao Xin. If you say Roystan Tan actually sang one of the songs in the movie, then perhaps his chinese name is Chen Xiao Xin??? Is it him? Coz Chen is also Tan or in Chinese.

Ever heard the soft music played live in a hotel or restaurant lounge from a piano and probably accompanied by a double bass before? Ever wanted to recreate that good, soothing feeling in your car or home?

I finally got myself a copy of Pink Martini's Sympathique today. I could immediately recognise most of the songs on the cd, and wanted to try for myself what kind of experience I could get out of it. Wow, amazing, best fusion cd I've listened in years! [thumbsup]

I saw the Hang on Little Tomato cd as well in the same cd shop but didn't see Hey Eugene. After getting Sympathique, I'm more determined to get the other 2 cds. Any places to recommend to get the other 2? I got the Sympathique for $19.90.

Happy National Day! This must have been one of the most exciting years of National Day celebration. Me too, I was equally excited, by the receipt of what I think will be Pink Martini's most successful album so far.

Hey Eugene! is the third album after the successful Sympathique released in year 1997 and Hang on Little Tomato in 2004. Sympathique has gone on to sell more than 750,000 according to their official website www.pinkmartini.com. Songs from Sympathique have also appeared on numerous music compilations including Starbucks/Hear Music, Buddha Bar, Hotel Costes, West Elm, Faonnable, Putumayo, Nordstrom, Williams-Sonoma and in various films such as In the Cut, Nurse Betty and Josie & the Pussycats, and have been used on television shows such as The Sopranos and The West Wing, among others.

I must say that Hey Eugene! is probably the best of the three albums. Containing 12 tracks blended with melody from golden-era Hollywood to French cabaret, this album will definitely remain in my car audio for a long time to come. Every track is refreshing, romantic and memorable, it is not bored and leave traces of the past. Take for example the variation Japanese-language track Taya Tan from the Saori Yuki which gives some Eastern flavour to the otherwise European/Mediterranean album. Mind you, dont be surprised to hear an Arabic-language Bukra wba'do on track 7, Arabic lyrics provided. Wonder if they will do a Hokkien or Cantonese one next time...

China Forbes sings even better over time and be in for even more surprises by the neater arrangement of instruments like the harp, trombone, violins, violas, cellos, trumpets, shakers, piano, surdo, cajon, cymbals, drums, guitar, congras, lots of backup vocalists, caxixi, vibraphone, timpani, bongo.and the list goes on...and did I say neater arrangements?

The album is real good thumbsup.gif, if I have no choice but to choose my favourite, it will have to be Taya Tan. What is yours?

Geez...Hey Eugene! is sold out at many stores, including NDV. Ernest was saying that the stock may take about 2 - 3 weeks to come.

just got myself a new 24-bit HDCD album at CDPlus in UE Square.

its by a local singer by the name of Olivia, but looks like she's based in Japan as the CD is marketed and distributed by S2S Inc, Japan.

the shop was playing her music as i was browsing around. was attracted to her soothing and mellow voice, akin to the likes of Norah Jones.

this album features mostly remade songs from various artists, done in a relaxing acoustic way.

this is definitely gonna be one of my favourite CDs.

Track Listing:

01 - Make It With You

02 - For Your Babies

03 - Fall In Love - Koini Ochite (Japanese)

04 - Sometimes When We Touch

05 - All Out Of Love

06 - True Colors

07 - Close To You

08 - First of May

09 - Fields Of Gold

10 - The Rose

11 - Only With You

Bonus Tracks:

12 - I Believe (Chinese)

13 - Lovers' Tears (Chinese)

Home grown talent, Olivia Ong's third album, who is currently based in Tokyo, has her crooning, in bossa nova, Sade and Antonio Carlos Jobim's cover versions. Her clear voice and good sense of the groove has her jazzing in style.

It is an improvement to the previous pop numbers in her sopohomore offering - Precious Stones. Make it Mutual and Fade Away sounds really better in bossa nova or perhaps it is just my preference.

It is a commendable effort from Olivia Ong as she takes on Bossa Nova with girlish delight. Favourites in the album include a lovely girlish redition of Seiko Matsuda's Sweet Memories. Also good to listen are L-O-V-E and Wave.

Other than some slight difficulty with the low tones, it looks like a good effort with some of the album's lyrics being written by her. Yo go, girl!

Really wanted to quickly do up this CD review after coming back from a chill-off session at Jazz@Southbridge last Saturday....but the 15-year old Whisky won the battle.

The usual, I was CD-hunting at SMC in Thomson Plaza, getting Hey Eugene! for Zambik when I chanced upon this CD from Ah Pan displayed on the shelf. One look at the recording label and company, I didn
