Sarong1 1st Gear September 19, 2007 Author Share September 19, 2007 (edited) AV show event CDs have always been favoured by many audio enthusiast, both for their collectible values as well as using them as benchmark and a common platform in evaluating the audio systems during the AV show. What I have gotten here from Hong Kong is a Taiwan Audio Association 2007 International Hi-End Hi-Fi Show CD. Remember the recently reviewed HK AV Show 2007 CD, this Taiwan audio show CD is another exciting CD. There are a total of 16 tracks in this TAA 2007 CD. 10 of which are musical while the other six are test tracks to determine the coherence of your system. Let's talk about the musical tracks first. Johanne Blouin's vocal on De La Main Gauche on track one is sensational. Lily Chen's number on track 2 is extracted from her album with Chris Badida which when listened in comparison with the actual album, is definitely better in terms of the focus on the vocal and piano. Worth mentioning here is the explosive and thunderous Vivaldi number on track 3. Improvised with percussions in this evergreen Concerto No.2 in G Minor, Terge Tonnesen has brought classical music appreciation to another level of enjoyment, so turn up the volume, best enjoyed at volume level 10 o'clock in your home system. Track 8's Tokyo Blues by Wayne Bartlett is equally outstanding on its vocal and instruments arrangement. This CD also features six white noise tracks to guide you through in determining the system left, right and center separation. In sum, another great CD to have by your side. Slidingturtle Neutral Newbie September 22, 2007 Share September 22, 2007 Was first introduced to jazz pianist eddie higgins at roxy music with My Foolish Heart, really liked him and so introducing 3 of his CDs here... Have really liked them for their easy, smooth flow (not the real hard jazz), the paino, the sax and the bass blending really well together and simply transforms you like to a different state... for me, it really soothenes the drive... haha.. Have been indifferent towards the sax before, but with scott hamilton on the tenor sax, its 'throaty' characteristics is oh so enchanting, just simply oozzes you out... The double bass runs pretty deep and would give ur sys a good work out..keke The recording is done by Venus records, manufactured in japan, and I would rate the recording as pretty fine. Of the 3, i probably still like the first one i got, My Foolish Heart most, more because it was the first than anything. In fact Smoke gets in your Eyes is actually produced earlier (in 2002)... A fine Romance is somewhat different... as all that is really left in the team is eddie himself. The first listening actually didn't go quite well, as was expecting more of the 'old' eddie higgins quartet... but after some time and some re-listening, i have warmed to it, and the easy smooth paino of eddie does still carry the day (CD). my foolish heart (2003) smoke gets in your eyes (2002) a fine romance (2007)
Michael_lch Neutral Newbie October 7, 2007 Share October 7, 2007 Thread has been quite quiet for awhile. So decide to do my 1st contribution. Pardon me if the review is not very professionally done. This CD is a very good compilation of the songs sang by Liu Gang, Zhao Peng and Xia Yu Rong Zi. It is produced by "Tu Ya" which has many other good singers such as Chen Guo, Maria which we can find the review in the earlier postings. Recording is good but what I like about this CDs by "Tu Ya" is that the songs are refreshing as a lot of creativity has been put in to remix them. A good CD to get as a starter to MIC CDs. Note that this is less than $20 and is a 2-sided CD i.e turn over the CD to watch DvD. Definitely value for money!
Eddie47 Neutral Newbie October 17, 2007 Share October 17, 2007 Hi bro Sarong1, I finally got the HK AV 2007 & the Taiwan Exhibition CDs reviewed by you. They are really good, thks for your recommendation, but I think for the HK CD I got the normal version cos mine is not the LP printed CD that you have. Instead, mine is the normal looking type CD, so probably I bought the wrong version?

Sarong1 1st Gear October 19, 2007 Author Share October 19, 2007 Yes, its equally good, some are saying its better...Pls get me a copy if you are going down...Thanks a lot...
Sarong1 1st Gear October 19, 2007 Author Share October 19, 2007 You can source for a 2nd hand. You will need a phono stage to amplify the low-voltage signal from the TT and feed them thru an amplifier with phono input (or otherwise an Aux input). Some people will also use phono cables for better results. I doubt the mini combo can support that without a phono.

Dunno Neutral Newbie October 20, 2007 Share October 20, 2007 I was digging through the store and found 2 interesting CDs. They are very old press. 1. Laguna De La Vera by Bernward Koch. Instrumental CD with grand piano, flutes and drums. Recorded and mixed in June 1992 at Sossd Nix Studio, Germany. CD manufactured in Germany. Produced by Higher Octave Music. 2. Yo-yo Ma. Bobby McFerrin. Hush Very interesting CD. Recording and Mixing by Chris Tergensen. Mastering by Bud Graham. Recorded at Dreamland Recording Studio, New York. Produced in USA and Distributed 1992 Sony Music. Didn't know I had these CDs until today. Tried them out in my car, not bad. Good staging and imaging. Didn't know recordings 15 years ago can be so good. Beat some of those pop CDs hands down.
