Happy National Day! This must have been one of the most exciting years of National Day celebration. Me too, I was equally excited, by the receipt of what I think will be Pink Martini's most successful album so far.

Hey Eugene! is the third album after the successful Sympathique released in year 1997 and Hang on Little Tomato in 2004. Sympathique has gone on to sell more than 750,000 according to their official website www.pinkmartini.com. Songs from Sympathique have also appeared on numerous music compilations including Starbucks/Hear Music, Buddha Bar, Hotel Costes, West Elm, Fa�onnable, Putumayo, Nordstrom, Williams-Sonoma and in various films such as In the Cut, Nurse Betty and Josie & the Pussycats, and have been used on television shows such as The Sopranos and The West Wing, among others.

 

I must say that Hey Eugene! is probably the best of the three albums. Containing 12 tracks blended with melody from golden-era Hollywood to French cabaret, this album will definitely remain in my car audio for a long time to come. Every track is refreshing, romantic and memorable, it is not bored and leave traces of the past. Take for example the variation Japanese-language track �Taya Tan� from the Saori Yuki which gives some Eastern flavour to the otherwise European/Mediterranean album. Mind you, don�t be surprised to hear an Arabic-language Bukra wba'do on track 7, Arabic lyrics provided. Wonder if they will do a Hokkien or Cantonese one next time...

 

China Forbes sings even better over time and be in for even more surprises by the neater arrangement of instruments like the harp, trombone, violins, violas, cellos, trumpets, shakers, piano, surdo, cajon, cymbals, drums, guitar, congras, lots of backup vocalists, caxixi, vibraphone, timpani, bongo�.and the list goes on...and did I say neater arrangements?

 

The album is real good thumbsup.gif, if I have no choice but to choose my favourite, it will have to be Taya Tan. What is yours?

While surfing YouTube, I found someone posted 4 MVs after buying the 881 OST CD that has 14 tracks. He said that CD came with free 4 MVs.

 

This 881 Papaya Sisters is a fantastic movie! 100% local and is produced by Roystan Tan. Here are the 4 free MVs posted by him on YouTube.

Yes Uncle Bob, indeed, its very well written. Kudos to all the folks that have made 881 a very successful local production. Now, when will you be buying the OST?

What am interested is the recording quality of the OST sound tracks.. price of the CD, can buy from anywhere I supposed?

Bought already. $17.90 at SMC Bukit Panjang. Apparently it is selling very well, cos there was only one piece left and I bought it. Recording is acceptable. Most importantly, I like the songs inside...

Hi Bro Kermit,

You are right.. When I went to buy, I was told it was out of stock since yesterday (Sunday) and the stock just arrived at 1.30pm and I grab one. According to the CD supplier who supplied stock to the CD stall, he said is selling very well and his stock is finished.

 

I bought it at Chinatown Temp Kreta Ayer Market CD shop for $15.50 just now from her fresh stock today. Enjoying it driving home. The recording is ordinary but when you play track 11 Last Breath (Guitar version), you immediately can hear very clear distortion like playing a very old record.. cannot believe that is happening. Anyway, majority of the songs are in hokkien mix.. I think there are 3 One Half versions but I liked track 8, a 100% hokkien track. This was my first impression when listening it for the 1st time. Still a good buy at $15.50

 

Tomorrow afternoon, I will be seeing the movie 881 with a friend of mine.

Anyway, majority of the songs are in hokkien mix.. I think there are 3 One Half versions but I liked track 8, a 100% hokkien track. This was my first impression when listening it for the 1st time.

Recently, have an urge to listen to "Tian Mi Mi".....and came across this CD, wonder anyone listening to her CD this days. Know anywhere can I get her better English recording CD ? This best I can find is 24K Gold CD. Any helps is appreciated. [thumbsup]

 

IMO, I feel her "Killing me softly with his song" is better then Susan Wong version....In term of vocal and power. But Susan Wong band is better...Sarong1 would like to hear you comments.

You should still be able to find Teresa Teng's album in CD shops, but they have been remastered to make it sound better. Of course, the remastered CDs come with a price but is definitely worth every single dollar. Some companies have remake her albums, one of them is this company call ABC International. I grew up listening to her songs and voice and I still think that her voice is one of the most difficult to mimic.

 

Nobody can replace Teresa, Susan has her own presentation while Teresa has her own. Susan's Killing me softly with his song" has been rearranged to sound audiophile...folks in general would prefer to listen to Teresa in analog. Either way, as long as you like, both should be nice and appropriate to rekindle fond memories.

 

By the way, I have with me this particular Teresa album which you can still get in the market. Comes in three audio CDs and 1 VCD. "Tian Mi Mi" is on CD 2 first track, well remastered.
