The target should be your cash not the CDs. Limit yourself by paying with cash, otherwise, you'll have to pay the extra NETS surcharge. Pay by cash won't give you discount but will save you some money. Ask for new CD available and what is recommended, share with him your favourite type of music. Although going with the norm will not go wrong, it will be good if you explore different type of music and help contribute by reviewing the CD you bought in the "CD review" thread. Hope to see your contribution real soon.

ok. will take note. saw a CD on recorders. listened and found it played with too many other instruments. masked out the recorder so didnt buy. i like recorders as well.

One of the privileges of being a classical music reviewer is that, in a time when classical labels frequently turn to recording new and unusual repertoire in order to survive, discs I might never usually gravitate towards arrive in my mailbox. Whenever I am tempted to ignore them and turn instead to the tried and true, I remind myself that for all the concerts I have attended in the past few years, two of the most energizing and enjoyable have been of Holly Near and Sweet Honey in the Rock - hardly your usual classical fare - while among the most dreadful have been performances of some of the operas I most love.

 

Which brings me to these wonderful recordings. The first two I picked up directly from audiophile labels at the recent Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas; the Naxos recording came from their fabulous PR person, while the last came as my reward for hounding the good folks at Nonesuch until they put me on their reviewer

Susan Wong - Close to you

The recording is superb, you can hear everything so 'clearly'.

Very nice vocal.

Good for people that enjoy defined vocal.

Yes, "Close to you" is nice and soothing. There are certainly some interesting arrangements behind the vocal. The seemingly artificial reverb in the album is worth mentioning here.

By the way, Albert Au is going to be in town on 3 and 4 Aug for a 2-day concert 区瑞强'香港情怀民歌说唱会' Albert Au In Concert . You may know him as the singer that sings the Cantonese song in "The Golden Ear Vol 1" CD. The performance is going to be at The Esplanade, and what is more interesting is that, he will be singing in the recital studio which has got very good acoustic, I am sure many will benefit from this live performance.

Side track a bit. Do you guys keep all these wonderful CDs and find yourself running out of space? Anyone who thinks there are some good CDs that you may want to let go at maybe half price just to make space, let me know.

 

I am just into audiophile for only a month and have no idea what CDs are good. I go into a CD shop's audiophile section and usually walk out empty-handed cos I don't know what is nice and the CDs are not cheap too, don't dare to anyhow humtum. I'm into vocals and instruments. So PM me if you have any good recording CDs that you wanna let go cheap.

Welcome to the audiophile world. Good CDs are hard to come by and hard-to-come-by stuffs will never going to be parted at half the price, most of the time. There is always a "membership" price tag to pay to be an audiophile. CDs and software alikes are never cheap but are prerequisites to enjoying good quality music. This is a hard fact that you have to accept. You have to source for good CDs on your own, by reading materials and reviews and at times, sampling them on your own. It's an art that is pretty difficult to teach and translate. For a start, go with good reviewed recording labels to explore. Chesky is definitely one of those.

I think this is a good CD to have in your collecting shelf. Is produce by rain forest .the album includes the cream of 16 album recently released by RFS
