Octopus 3rd Gear October 9, 2005 Share October 9, 2005 Bro, the difference between 195/55 R15 and 195/50 R15 is more than 3% difference in overall diameter, which is not recommended. Its better to maintain the overall diameter within 3% of your original tyre size. ↡ Advertisement
Kinetics Neutral Newbie October 10, 2005 Share October 10, 2005 Hi May I know the reason why within 3%? As I'm thinking of changing from 65 to 55. Tks
Octopus 3rd Gear October 10, 2005 Share October 10, 2005 Read here: http://www.1010tires.com/tech.asp?type=wheels#plussizing According to info from the net, wrong sizing (overall diameter) will cause problem to transmission system, braking system, speedometer and odometer will be inaccurate....if possible, better to keep it within 3% difference. You can use the calculator here: http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp to help you determine what are the different sizes available. Kinetics Neutral Newbie October 10, 2005 Share October 10, 2005 Thanks. Just curious what happen to those car with normal stock profile tyres but change to low profile type aftermarket? Tks
Octopus 3rd Gear October 10, 2005 Share October 10, 2005 There's a specific procedure to follow for such case.....for example: 175/70 R13 vs 185/60 R14 vs 195/50 R15 all have very close overall diameter, but rim size is different. Preferably should not upgrade more than +2 sizing. Read more from the website I had quoted in my post earlier and it should explain how to upgrade your rim size properly. You can also use the 'calculator' I had posted earlier to see which combination allows similar overall diameter compared to your original tyre size. Kinetics Neutral Newbie October 10, 2005 Share October 10, 2005 Thank you all. If I stick to within 2-3% but go for lower profile but wider size, will this increase my FC? Tks for tolerating my newbie qns
Octopus 3rd Gear October 10, 2005 Share October 10, 2005 Don't worry about the increase in FC cos it will be rather minor. I've personally switched from 175/70 R13 to 195/50 R15 and didn't noticed and notable increase in FC. The plus points is that the ride after changing tyre & rims size is that feedback from road surface is more noticeable, and cornering much better. Kinetics Neutral Newbie October 10, 2005 Share October 10, 2005 Thank you, I'm glad to hear that as the tyre shop people told me that FC will increase and with the current petrol prices......sigh
Dennisk Clutched October 10, 2005 Share October 10, 2005 currently mine is 185/65/14...so which should i choose? any good tyres to recommend?
Octopus 3rd Gear October 10, 2005 Share October 10, 2005 It depends on your requirement. Do you prefer grip or comfy/quiet tyres?
Dennisk Clutched October 10, 2005 Share October 10, 2005 erm....6/10 for grip 4/10 for comfort...what about ZIEX-512? i read the specs...it "seems" good to me...not sure too...
Kaiserdome 1st Gear October 10, 2005 Share October 10, 2005 I find 512 noisy and poor on wet
Dennisk Clutched October 10, 2005 Share October 10, 2005 erm...if compare to ST115? or any better tyres out there?
Octopus 3rd Gear October 10, 2005 Share October 10, 2005 I've never used ZEIX 512 before, but read somewhere that it got good grip in dry and wet, but noise will increase gradually.... If you really aiming for 512, perhaps you can try getting some quotes from other tyre shops, cos I think Stamford Tyre's pricing for 512 is higher. Dennisk Clutched October 10, 2005 Share October 10, 2005 erm...not really aiming for that...haven't really settle my mind set which should i get...
