Hi CHEVY Owner

Our CHEVY (AVEO / OPTRA ..) Aircon have no sensor cut off system(confirm by SA) so the compressor will over work and spoilt easily.

I,ve approach 1 Aircon shop at Ang Mo Kio and they can Mod with the sensor and the price are resonable and friendly.

The A/C is the cyclic type. That means it will not cut off which is true but it will cycle from high load to low load continuously. Give it more load, it will cycle faster. Load is a combination of cabin fanspeed and temperature setting.

 

Screwing around with the sensor might also mean screwing around with the already built-in "PowerPass" type switch that is already in it. If you have not noticed, floor your Chevy and the A/C compressor will cut off. Release the throttle and the A/C compressor kicks back in.

 

Do the mod will mean risking having higher FC or insufficient power when you floor it.

Hi do you have any write out of this chevy aircon theory or the circuitry.

 

I ve already discuss with someone who are the specialise in car aircon and also with the smeone up at he SA and was also who agree to the problem. Many Chevy owner out there in the world (M'sia, sin, Philip, India ...) who i ve discuss or view their website mention about the Aircon compressor problem.

 

I may go by their manual or book but when come to mfg design for different country application and it may not be suitable for our country n climate

 

Basing on my OPTRA 1.6A the engine compartment or chamber are design for cold country but for our country or climate it can cause many problem to the car. (eg. due to the engine heat& ventilation it cause the Radiator resovoir container to crack / Petrol, battery water & radiator water evaporated faster.....)

If you don,t mod or enhance your car that doesn't mean that your car will have enough power or you will have constant FC and your engine will not damage due to under spec or power and the engine is dragging.

 

I ve MOD my car for 8-9yrs (others car) with :

- Air Injet

- Braking system

- CAI > different type etc....

 

I do get the better power and FC.

 

So the manual or engine diagram is a structure that they ve build the car and its subject to enhance for our good/advantage. its just like a building designer keep changing design till there are satisfied

Theory? Check with the guys at Daewootech.com They have tested the compressor kick off. Not many cars of that price have this kind of thing. Even the old Lanos had this. In Singapore, this thing belongs to newer Hondas and Contis. If it is so detrimental to performance, maybe you can get the BMW, MB, Opel, Renault, Ford and Peugeot owners getting rid of their cyclic A/C systems, huh? Put it another way, the car is intelligent now and you want to make it dumb? dizzy.gif

 

I'm not going say anymore but do you think the engineers who designed the car thought of everything possible to make sure the engineering is suitable for all users of most countries they market it to? When they design cars, they design it for all climates. The A/C is not the problem. It is the users who like most Singaporeans pampered to the point of having cars so cold, they fog up the windows on a nice clear day hur.gif.

 

Your radiator example is moot. All cars are designed to run on 50/50 mix with EG/water so that you get overboil protection. Ambient temperatures have little effect on coolant temperatures. It is a complete system designed to keep everything under a constant temperature. Ours is a closed system with the expansion tank cap as the rad cap. If there is evaporation, it is not our ambient temperatures. The system has a leak!

Dear Genie,

 

The only thing I noticed about Chevy aircon is that if you aren't running the aircon compressor, you can't leave the fan on because it blows warm air from the engine!

just wonderring...

 

 

If the A/C cycle from high load to low load continuously, why does it need to mix with the engine hot air to produce warmer air? Doesn't higher load means colder air and vice versa? If it's because the A/C at it's highest temp is still very cold and need the engine's warm air to heat it up, doesn't that sort of mean that the A/C is actually wasting power, even at low load?

 

When it was mentioned that load is a combination of cabin fanspeed and temperature setting, is "load" = "aircon load"

Does that means that if i set to a very high fan speed, i actually stress my aircon more?

Doesn't that sort of mean i can't even have a pure wind chill effect without loading my aircon more?

What then happens when A/C is off? If the "connection" between the fan motor and the A/C is mechnical and not electrical in nature, then wouldn't the A/C still be stresses even if the A/C is off?
