Help : Question on muffler

Bro, all i know when pple say operate the muffler it means cutting the muffler itself and do something to it la, i think removing something inside it...

 

decat wud me totally removing the catalytic converter whose purpose is to clean up the harmful gases thats suppose to pass thru. cant remember wats the theory abt this, but there are some good articles in this forum i saw...

Back pressure = exhaust pressure cause by pipe size, cat & muffler restriction. The reading is taken either at the pre cat lambda sensor threaded hole or via a drill hole before the cat.The testing is done at idle speed then follow by running engine at 3000rpm.

you are right man - operate muffler not equal not removing cat converter.

operate muffler = removed all fiber inside, put a straight through, replace

back new fiber, weld the muff and fit back.

How to put it? Cars with good low to mid range torque (say from 2500rpm to 3500rpm) would experience better pick up...If I'm not wrong, Lancer peak Nm produced at 2700rpm? Maybe, I'm just saying MAYBE , your mod has changed the torque from low-mid range to mid-high range (4000rpm onwards). That's mean under normal driving condition, you might feel the car abit underpwred. Thus, the car needs higher rev to perform...

 

Hmmm? I tot LTA has given some allowance on mod? Not really wat u do is illegal as long as it still compliant with LTA... There are many LTA compliant exhaust in the market nowadays, but they are $$$. Which makes me tot y u got one that's illegal? To save $$$?

 

Of course lah, if you want to fit back the stock muffler have to pay to get it done. Can DIY also lah, if u have the right tools and don't mind lying under the car... . Just joking

Usually, a freer flow exhaust must go with a more free flow filter and vice versa. It is always recommended that the cone filter is locate away from heat or fit heat shield. Both freer flow filter, drop-in and cone, you can see which one has larger breathing area, definitely it's the cone one.

Yap, I agree what you say. Same car with same mods but with each uses different brand, performance may differ. But if you change to open pod and felt that the car has no improvement or even worse, don't blame me... ... Like what I say, AUTO cars usually should go with the semi-flow muffler. Can check out with MAN Exhaust at Sin Ming if you have doubts because I drive a Manual car so I didn't ask much...hehe...

Ok, u mentioned that the AUTO cars usually shd go wif semi flow muffler. So how do i know or recognise if mine is a semi flow or a straight thru type ?

dats exactly how i feel... i feel like i hav to step further to pickup dat much... i didnt remember having to do dat before i change to this. I also belived that its got to do wif the back pressure thingy.... Anywhere i cud go for advise? ANy shop?

Ok, wait till I have an X-ray eyes and see the setup of your muffler box, then I'll tell you.. ... Just kidding...You should ask the shop which install the muffler for you...

Pay MAN Exhaust a visit at Sin Ming Industrial Park. You can seek them for advise and solution... You may want to operate the stock exhaust as well? Usually cost $160 and 3 hrs to do it... Hope the following helps yah...

Any other workshops nearby? Hmm, nearby where? haha... So far, I only know MAN Exhaust because I've got my car's exhaust operated there... Another one would be Fong Kim Exhaust at Paya Lebar Industrial Park. Well, regarding operation on the exhaust is legal or not, I've asked MAN Exhaust before, they told me as long as the sound is not too obvious (within sound limit set by LTA) it's fine... Loud as in during idle, you can hear the exhaust note, that's definitely NO, NO... Ok, that's all I can give...Hope it helps to solve your underpwr problems...

haha, nearby meaning in Bukit Merah area got or not... I went to Fong Kim last weekend, charge me $180 to operate..

But u see the thing is my exhaust is not too loud at all when idling, just when i start the engine theres this cool vroom vroom sound for a 1 or 2 seconds. then after that idling sound ok... quiet. But the underpower issue is wat that is troubling me.... perhaps underpower by 5-10% but i cud feel it...

 

so now since my sound is ok, and not too loud, i guess LTA wud be ok wif it.... hahahaha

Hmm, I'm not sure if any exhaust workshops in Bukit Merah. Personally, I thought, Those guys at MAN exhaust gives good service at resonable price. Someday, if you should pay them a visit. Really... My muffler box was charged at $160 at first but at the end they charged me $10 cheaper. They are friendly too...

 

As for your exhaust, sounds like you should be able to pass the LTA inspection, still cant confirm till the day you actually go for the inspection...It seems alright to me...
