Those whom are looking for a cheaper rotary might be glad to know that the Hitachi SP-18 VA is avaliable locally @ S$200, its a pretty popular machine in Autopia.

More info @ http://www.chemicalguys.com/Buffers_Polishers_p/buf_101.htm

There are China made rotary machines @ $80+ but I would strongly discourage them, its a 1500W machine and the last thing you would want is either an electrical shock or fire. [sweatdrop]

First timers might want stick with a DA first though, although a rotary produces better results, there is a risk of burning/damaging the paint if not careful.

I have emailed PC 2 years back and they keep telling me to refer to my local B&D office but as we all know B&D don't sell DA locally and Porter Cable don't sell outside continental US, hence there was no 220V/240V PC unless you get one modified yourself.

I believe Meguiar's with it's large market and purchasing power might have persuaded PC to finally release a 220V version of it's G100. I hoped it will be a US made tool and not one coming out of China with either a PC or Meguiar's sticker slapped on it. Pricing are not expected to be cheap...expect close to $400 for one (just my guess!) Warantee is another issue...will it be covered & serviced by local B&D service centre? If it is not, I will stay well clear of it!

Its really expensive to have it shipped over, to think the PC is considered as an entry level machine over there.

Some of the members got them at les than US$70 during clearance sales ... [:|]

Dewalt used to make a really nice rotary but its not avaliable here anymore .... [:(]

You mean a Dewalt DA? yes that would be Dewalt DW443...it's my main machine for donkey years now and is still going strong. Made in USA no less (most of the new ones are either Made in Mexico, Czech etc) but the motor is a bit too loud compared to PC. If you can still find one let me know [thumbsup]

The rotary (DW849 or B&D #6138...both same machine) can still be found with the authorised dealers.

Machine polishing is great [sunny] , but I have just burnt through another backing plate. When the heat builds up, that's when the polishing pads velcro backing also cuts through exposing the sponge [furious] . So fed up of the heat build up in GEX270 so seriously considering another D/A. Is the Ryobi any better? Need your opinions [confused] . Thanks in advance

YUP! YUP! Before this becomes a rotary thread, a update on the use of GEX270 .... Bought a black backing plate replacement that is meant for stone/metal polishing as locally do not have the white foam(for polishing) plate available. After the last experience I was more careful this time by removing the pad after polishing each panel to allow the backing plate to cool. Allow the D/A to rotate and do not apply too much pressure. For deeper imperfection, use a more aggressive pad instead. No meltdown this time except for the edge of the pad's felt backing starting to curl up. So a lesson learned, and money saved(about to buy a rotary).
