Hi OPTRA 1.6 sedan & ESTATE Drivers/Owners

 

Just came back from JB to open up the hole for ventilation to engine

compartment.I should have done it earlier but no regret and anyway have

done it liao. The result for it is :

 

01. Engine quieter, smoother

02. Air con is cooler

03. Performance is better (definitely)

04. FC - Monitoring

Did it today the weather was hot and sunny, just he right time to test it.

I ve open some holes for the air to engine compartment and the result is good.

OMG You have just reduced the strength of your front end by drilling those holes ! The insurance people would use this as a reason for refusing a claim if they ever find out such a mod is done to reduce structural strength !

 

IMHO, I doubt if these little holes would improve air flow that much !

My insurance friend knows

Its not weaken cos the metal is thick and it does improve.

No so far no water mark (yesterday heavy rain) and the holes are 5mm only.

I wud tend to agree with cbx750 on this.

 

I dont see much if any improvement with ventilation of the engine bay. The metal has been weakened by those holes & may even start to rust if not finished properly.

 

Sorry, but this is my feeling also.

 

But I do think the optra is a great car. Love the wagon.

err...insurance fren does not mean the insurance company acknowledges that and allows claim if anything should happen....unless ur fren is the boss

Thanks for the comment, anyway my mechanic already check and its not weaken ,cos the strenght for the support is at the top. Well it does help to me so long air get into the engine compartment to reduce abit of the engine heat.

Ask the mechanic to give you a written statement verifying that the front apron is not weaken in anyway by the drillings on the front and that in a frontal impact, the structural rigidity & integrity is not compromised !

if you look at AVEO structure is smaller/thinner than the OPTRA.

 

Anyway, I did it for my point of view and to share in the forum for the benefit of OPTRA?Estate and any other type of car who feel that same way can consider ma. An no need to to verify or certify and is base on my mechanic who drill all the hole on it, he also say its not affecting the structure. If anyone feel that is not safe to do it than dont do it. But, if you want to do it, it will be at your own risks. And I am enjoying my

cool aircon, better performance or ride in the afternoon sun, also the FC improver.

i think u drill the wrong hole...

below the engine is a piece of plastic that cover up, same as alfa 156, that is the one u should drill hole....
