Changing color on dashboard

isnt high temp paints use for spraying engine bay parts? as interior doesnt exposed to extreme heat and moreover aircon is switch-on whenever driving.....and even if parking under hot sun for few hours, the temp inside the car is around 30plus degree.....

 

so. what is the price u pay for the high temp paint and where to get it at?

It cost S$6 per can, as compared to S$4 per can for normal color. But it seems to only come in black, silver and maybe white. I use it for my rims and kind of liked its look. Dumb taste prehaps. I used RJ paint, can get them at those bigger hardware shop. The one at Ubi, near the car beauty car accessory shop seems to have tons of them. Hope this info helps.

Can i use normal type of $4.50 spraying can bought from hardware shop to spray on dashboard?

Beside the trouble of doing it, you will face some or all the problem listed below sooner or later cos the material in the spray can is one of the lowest quality type.

 

1. Crack, cos the dashboard and the paint film will expend differently the subjects to heat from sun light.

2. un-even change in colour after exposure to sun like. If you have install vcool than it is not too bad.

3. scratches, it will definitely happen.

4 if it is glossy, it will reflect light, if it is matt, you need good skill to spray it.

5. It may peel off after some time, cos these paint are not design for plastic.

6, 7, 8..... allot more problems, it is too technical to mentioned.

so, did u let it dry in-between each layer? or spray continuous multiple layers? And did u spray lacquer too?

 

Yes you have to let it dry in between each layer, 10-15 minutes between each layer should be sufficient. No I didn't spray lacquer. IMO spraying lacquer over the finished surface will give you the clear-coat look, which was not the effect I was trying to achieve.

I advise not to spray light colour like white, yellow silver on the top dash panel joining your windscreen. The reflect on the windscreen depends more on the lightness of the colour rather than gloss/matt finish. If you want to have coordinated colour, you can spray a darker shade of the same colour family on the top portion of the panel so that you have a two-tone colour. You can check out cars in showroom. Whenever they use a light interior colour, it is always two-tone with the top of the dash being darker colour. One way to experience is to put a piece of paper sprayed with the colour you want and put it on the top of the dash (like putting parking coupon) and evaluate the reflection.
