So any Terios/Rush owners can reflect on the petrol consumption ?

1st time care buyer ...dunno what to do ...

Love the car ....think Rush looks nicer .... (foldable mirrors and all)

But worried about buying from PI .....

I may be wrong, but I would assume that all ADs and PIs would, at one point or another, move their showroom units (not Demo units that are used for test drives) to customers as new vehicles. Otherwise, what would they do with them? As for the Demo units that have clocked some miles, I presume these get sold off at a discount.

A few years ago, I bought a CRV from a PI. Although the SE told me otherwise, I was quite certain that when I took delivery, I got the showroom unit. Actually it did not bother me at all - maybe I was so happy getting the new car then that I overlooked everthing else.

In your case, you are absolutely certain that you have received a showroom unit, and that obviously has a negative impact. Perhaps you can talk to STS for some form of compensation, eg a free upgrade to the quad lamps or some other accessories.

usually PI have limited stock... and PI usually sell the car that u test drive... as for AD, showroom cars are usually sold in discount...

You mean the mirrors are non-foldable for Terios? Any other differences?

Customer given display set of new car, despite repeated reminders

RECENTLY, I bought a Daihatsu Terios from Sin Tien Seng, the sole distributor of Daihatsu vehicles in Singapore.

Before registration and collection of my new car, I told Sin Tien Seng several times I did not want to be given the display set. To ensure I was not given the display set without my knowledge, I took down the chassis number of the vehicles on display.

The day I collected my new vehicle, I realised I had been given a car that had been on display for the past month. I immediately asked the salesman why I had been given the display set despite repeated reminders.

What saddens me most is the fact that there was no attempt by Sin Tien Seng to tell me I had been given the display set until I checked the chassis number myself.

I asked Sin Tien Seng for an explanation but was told it has no control over the allocation of new vehicles. Nothing could be done except clean up the vehicle and do a thorough check. Although I was offered this option, the fact remains that I was given a display set without my knowledge and agreement.

Two questions:

How are the rights of consumers protected in such situations?

Can the Consumers Association of Singapore help me get a satisfactory explanation and resolution from Sin Tien Seng?

I hope this serves as a word of advice to all potential car buyers: Take down the chassis number to ensure you are not given the display set without your knowledge and consent.

A letter to ST online forum (Removed writer's name)

See... even the AD can chut this kind of pattern...

Woooooo! rear wheel drive + MANUAL TRANSMISSION! flowerface.gifflowerface.gif

i've seen quite a few on the road and i must say it looks really nice :D can't imagine its a 1.5 engine block inside :) looks like a 2+ litre car! + the colours are really unique! (not the boring blue/black/silver you see everywhere)

rear wheel drive cars with manual transmission is really rare these days thumbsup.gif

the terios looks like a nifty car for people who are on a budget yet want to have a SUV to bully other smaller cars :D it looks great!

and being rear wheel drive.. hmmm ;D just lowering the car + a nice LSD would make it fun around the corners hehehehehe [flowerface]

hehehe i wonder if anyone would buy the rear wheel drive and have some drifting fun with it laugh.gif

I am new car buyer and am quite interested in this car. I read that regular maintenance will be higher than saloon cars due to it being a 4WD?

Any experience guys out there will care to explain a little more?

Example:

use more engine oil? need to change more frequently?

tire wear out faster?

what else?

Like Yappiez, I am a new car buyer. I like the rush but apphrehensive of buying from PI.

Seems like everyone raves about the Terios but I hardly see them on the road. Why?

Secondly, what is the hidden costs of a suv compared to a sedan?

I know that wheels are more expensive to replace and where out faster, anything else.

Thank you for your help.

Hi Cudas,

I am also thinking of not buying from PI. From reading the forum, I understand that the distributor offers better terms on servicing. 100k km compared to PI of 60k km. I rather pay more for that peace of mind.. I intend to keep my current means of transport (a bike) [pirate] and would rather spent my spare time with it than to mess about with the car.

What other cars are you considering besides this?

For me I am also considering

Rav4,

Forester and

Airtrek.

Rush or Terios is probably on the lower end in this range which makes it more affordable also...

Prefer something more rugged than the usual saloon.

Still need to do more research but there is so much work to do. damn it! [knife]

Hi Yappiez

I am as clueless as you but I am not considering the Rav4, Forester because of costs.

The general consensus is that you ar better off not buying from a PI.

I still want to know the difference in terms of maintenance costs of the Terios compared

to a similar saloon etc altis.

I ordered a Terios from the AD end-Feb and took delivery after 2 months - as promised. I had initially talk to a PI and was interested in the Rush (2WD), but subsequently decided on the Terios (4WD). When the PI called and found out that I had ordered a Terios with 2 months waiting time, he told me (something like that) - "I could have given you the Rush in 2 weeks!!!". I now know that there are many people who ordered the Rush from PIs more than 2 months ago, and they are are still waiting for their cars! It is more like 3 months wait before they get their Rush!

A lot have been written about the differences between the Terios and the Rush - and there are pros and cons. Essentially if you buy a Rush, you get 2WD (Auto); if you buy a Terios, you can get either 2WD (Manual) or 4WD (Auto or Manual). The Terios is cheaper than the Rush, but comes with less accessories.

The 4WD offers excellent traction - especially in the wet. In the dry, it feels as though it is on rails. Downside is that it is slightly more thirsty (less than 1 km/ltr worse off) and wears the tires a bit faster. My wife's Terios has done about 1.5K km, and on average is returning about 11-12 kms/ltr. Pretty good actually for a SUV that weighs close to 1.2 tonne. Maintenance costs - I think it will only be marginally more than a saloon; BTW, the AD offers 100K Km or 3 years warranty, and servicing is recommended at 15K Km intervals.

The Terios is built for export and mainly customised for Europe. So, the suspension is slightly more firm.

Whether it is Rush or Terios, the 1.5 Ltr engine is the weak point of this SUV. It feels noisy and sluggish, and will probably feel "busy" when on long distance at cruising speeds (eg NS Expresswey in Msia).

Thanks Jeffery for the information.

Where did you get your Terios from eventually? STS?

So in your opinion, 1.5L for this car is underpowered? Overworking at times?

May I asked what kind of load do you usually carry?

How will the engine performing between 90 to 110km/hr with 2 small size adults in it?

Will it be underpowered for that?
