I went to STS at Kallang on last Thurs. Currently there are no test drive unit available and the earliest test drive unit will be in late May /June. The current showroom units are all sold. I have attached the pricelist and equipment list that I got from STS. I still personally feel that it is overpriced.

In the case of the Rush, the price difference between a 4WD and 2WD is close to $6K. In the case of the Terios, the difference is only $2K. So, either the 2WD Terios is overpriced, or the 4WD is priced as a good buy.

It's not the pricing difference between the 2WD and 4WD that I feel is overpriced. Generally I feel that the Terios should be in the range of $55k. Being price at $59k, I feel STS is trying to earn as much as possible due to the popularity of the car.

Hi, there is a difference here between PI and STS. I noticed that PI has foldable side mirror while STS does not have. Also, PI's has side indicator light while Terios does not have.

These are the two features that I hope STS can install. Foldable mirror is very useful in our narrow carpark.

I went to one PI here and saw it has roof rack and back spoiler. But no sports rim and leather seat. It is asking for $64500! [rifle][pirate][gorgeous]

Looking at the equipment list, i was wondering what does spot lamp - front interior mean?

Anyway, on the pricing of the terios, the 2wd manual looks high, but the 4wd auto seems reasonable considering it about the same price or slightly cheaper than the 2wd Rush.

(For all makes, the 4wd is always more expansive, but some will argue that you're paying a premium for the "toyota" brand, however i don't buy that because if you look at the daihatsu/toyota press release for the car, they have priced the daihatsu and toyota the same!!!, so why should one pay more for the toyota?)

I believe the spot lamp - front interior, is the map reading light.

Yes, I agree, the Toyota branding is a significant price premium to pay.

For those who are interested, STS has now launched yet another upgrade package - Big Wheels. Believe this has wider alloy wheels/tyres, roof rails, extended wheel arches, etc, etc. This package is only for Manual drives. Cost another $2K, on top of the High Grade package.

I actually like the roof rails; hope STS will soon make these as an available option.

Commencing next week, you should see the Terios on the street as the first batch have been registered and delivered to their owners.

Customer given display set of new car, despite repeated reminders

RECENTLY, I bought a Daihatsu Terios from Sin Tien Seng, the sole distributor of Daihatsu vehicles in Singapore.

Before registration and collection of my new car, I told Sin Tien Seng several times I did not want to be given the display set. To ensure I was not given the display set without my knowledge, I took down the chassis number of the vehicles on display.

The day I collected my new vehicle, I realised I had been given a car that had been on display for the past month. I immediately asked the salesman why I had been given the display set despite repeated reminders.

What saddens me most is the fact that there was no attempt by Sin Tien Seng to tell me I had been given the display set until I checked the chassis number myself.

I asked Sin Tien Seng for an explanation but was told it has no control over the allocation of new vehicles. Nothing could be done except clean up the vehicle and do a thorough check. Although I was offered this option, the fact remains that I was given a display set without my knowledge and agreement.

Two questions:

How are the rights of consumers protected in such situations?

Can the Consumers Association of Singapore help me get a satisfactory explanation and resolution from Sin Tien Seng?

I hope this serves as a word of advice to all potential car buyers: Take down the chassis number to ensure you are not given the display set without your knowledge and consent.

Saw a Blue Terios on the ECP around 5pm today - going towards the airport. Have not seen any Rush on the road yet.

I may be wrong, but I would assume that all ADs and PIs would, at one point or another, move their showroom units (not Demo units that are used for test drives) to customers as new vehicles. Otherwise, what would they do with them? As for the Demo units that have clocked some miles, I presume these get sold off at a discount.

A few years ago, I bought a CRV from a PI. Although the SE told me otherwise, I was quite certain that when I took delivery, I got the showroom unit. Actually it did not bother me at all - maybe I was so happy getting the new car then that I overlooked everthing else.

In your case, you are absolutely certain that you have received a showroom unit, and that obviously has a negative impact. Perhaps you can talk to STS for some form of compensation, eg a free upgrade to the quad lamps or some other accessories.

Sorry for the misunderstanding: it's not my Terios. I was just sharing a letter I read on the Straits Times online Forum with everyone who is interested in this car. I myself am, so this article is a bit disconcerting.

As you said, it is fine to sell showroom/test drive cars, BUT the buyer must be aware (and usually he gets a discount). It is unethical, however, to pass them off as BRAND NEW.
