Difficulty starting engine

Hi guys. I have the problem of difficulty starting engine before. It was solved after the last servicing (the mechanic did not find anything wrong when I brought it in, but the problem went away, and we still don't know why), but it has come back the last few days.

 

The problem is:

1. After parking the car for a few hours

2. Put in the key and turn - radio comes on

3. When I turn somemore to start the engine, nothing happens. There is no sound from the engine AT ALL. No "rrr" "rrr" "rrr" of the engine trying to start. Just a soft click.

4. To start the engine, I need to completely turn back the key (switching off the radio), then turn back again. Only then it starts.

5. The problem seems to go away if I step on the gas pedal a few times before I try to start the engine.

 

I wonder if any of you guys have a clue as to what might be the problem?

PS. I already blip the throttle before I switch off the engine.

maybe ur accessories are draining the power away from ur sparks..

I had the similar prob with my starlet as well at times.

at least mine have the 'rrr' sound but cannot start.

 

i asked a few bros here before, they suggested that it cld be the

starter, or carb.

one mech also said that it cld well be the electrical wiring of

the car too. which is why i now turn off the radio before i turn

off the engine.

 

presently, in the morning or after parking long i need to pedal

the accel once or twice before it will start... at least it starts

 

oh, try not to blip the throttle before u turn off this few days.

cos the 'something' (i can't recall exactly wat) might be overflow.

 

seems u are not the only with the same prob... do let me know if

someone managed to solved ur prob. cos mine need some tweaking too.

Re-check wires to your starter... or your starter itself.

just checking, if my batt was jump started before

(cos i forgot to switch off my headlight then)

will it ultimately affect the longevity of the batt?

 

mine using thoes MF batt, the light still show green

which means it's good. but somehow i think the batt was

shock before and may not so good after.

yup, i believe it will affect, unless u've used those slow trickle charger to charge back.

Battery need to change. Its warning that the battery going to die liao.

how old is your battery? i'll affect, but i don't think by alot, maybe u'll still have 80% of what it used to be..

6 months. so was wondernig if the batt affects the

start as well

6months considered quite a new battery, well, i guess if the guage say its ok, it should be fine for a maybe 6 more months..

my traditional wet discharged battery lasted me another 6months

 

 

maybe you can get the mech to check the alternator to see if its charging the battery properly

Nhrisuzu: I'm driving EP70. Shouldn't be due to accessories. Compared to other cars, I believe my ride is quite plain

 

Jonbummer: Shouldn't blip the throttle before I switch off? But isn't it the same as blipping the throttle before you start the engine? Or is it because when you flood the engine and then it becomes stationary for a long time, it's no good?

hmmmm

u have a good qnn, and i dunno the true answer to it

but i try:

 

it's diff, i think when u blip before u start the engine

and just before u switch it off.

* before u start, u blip the accel, the fuel wil be burn

off when it starts and during the ride.

* just before switching off, yes, i think wat the mech might

means it's that it's not good to flood the engine. if i recall

correctly, it cld be the card unable to control the flow and

thus the overflow in engine and/or carb.

 

ok bro, this is the views from a relatively newbie.

so it's less than 2 cents worth!

 

and, do let me know the dignosis after u sent ur ride to

the workshop ya? cos i wld like to rectify the issue too

if possible SooN!

it has nothing to do with the gas pedal.

 

most prob the soleniod relay is faulty. just change that will do. can go lion city electric at alexandra. they should be able to rectify the prob 4 u.
