Sorry, type error, I have updated. Initialy, I have interest with Toyota Vios 1.5A, but found it's Thai-made. Suzuki Liana is Jap-made. Vios and Liana, which is better? Vios FC and build quality is good, but interior is small. How is Liana?

Hi,

I am currently driving a Conti car and has always preferred Conti car. But I went to test drive this car recently and I was pleasantly surprised by the Lianarolleyes.gif. It is not as good in road handling as Conti cars, but the acceleration and handling was pretty decent and smooth, and quite quiet.

The interior is also clean and simple, and I find the leather trimming neat. Boot space for the hatchback is also quite generous.thumbsup.gif

With the current price at about $53K for 1.6L, it is a good deal, with leather seats, sports rims and solar film thrown in. The sedan one is cheaper and comes with spoiler. These are still made in Japan, as opposed to some other Jap brands. Build quality is definitely better than Korean brands like Chevy Optra which I compared recently. Since the car is not overly heavy, FC is quite reasonablel for a 1.6L, which, for normal driving, can be about 13km/L (should ask around for Liana drivers for more exact figures). IMHO, this car is value for money. thumbsup.gif

The SE who attended to me was very nice, and before the COE drop this month, she even wanted to cut $1K and offered more freebies to get me to sign the dotted line. The deal did not go through because I still chose a Conti car in the end, but I would still recommend her to you if you are interested. Drop me a PM if you are keen. wink.gif

I'm driving the 1.3 manual hatchback.

For the 1.3, the pick-up is a little slow, due to the power-to-weight ratio. The 1.6 should be better. Once above 60 km/h, however, the engine cruises nicely.

Fuel comsumption for the 1.3 is pretty good. On average, I get 12.5 to 13 km per litre, not bad considering I do 50-50 normal roads/highways, and have a rather heavy foot.

The best thing for me, however, is the space. To date, I have transported:

(1) 1 2m tall CD rack

(2) 1 queen-sized bed

(3) 1 2.35 m tall wadrobe!

All from IKEA, of course.

Additionally, I occasionally transport 2 mountain bikes INSIDE the boot (with rear seats folded) down!

Go for it! But with the price of the 1.6 at such a good deal now, plus the facelift and new VVT engine,it's very worth it! (And as you said, made in Nippon!)

Go for it! The price has dropped, last time 1.3 litre was abt 53k now 1.6 litre is ard this price.

If u need more booth space go for hatch model.

keke [laugh] u still have some Conti-car feeling as the signal-stick is on the left-side of steering wheel [laugh]

Hi,

I drive a 1.6A hatch.

I find the car a good day to day transportation with good look, decent performance & road holding. I've hit 160km/h on NS highway.

Aircon is powerful, decent insulation against road road noise, nicely weighted steering.

Mine is 1 yr + (milage 30+k) & its fit is still very good. I've seen cars with similar age & some of the places already start falling apart (not literally of course) [:)]

The layout is good for ICE too with far stretched A pillars [sly]

The only complaint is the FC. I get only 10+km/l in Sg (50%HW) but I'm on 16". [shakehead]

Hope this help. [;)]

Vios FC is better than liana. But vios build quality [thumbsdown].

If you need a spacious cabin, go for liana [thumbsup] .

With 1.6L and VVT for liana now, it's really value for $$.

I got my 1.6A HB abt a month ago. What struck me most about this car is the sound insulation which is rather good. Road noise and engine noise are all muted quite well. Performance is decent, especially the 2006 FL version with the VVT.

I'm getting about 11km/ltr and this is before run in and I'm quite heavy footed. I'm not sure abt this but seems like Octane 95 petrol gives better mileage than 98.

Overall, although its not the best 1.6L car, but I have no regrets getting this car, value for money especialy now that CM throws in body kit/fog lights/sport rims/leather seats/solar film and the Clarion (new model) HU.

This was actually my last choice but the space & head room won me over, now very happy with this car really.

Added: Only the 1.6L has the added sound insulation, the 1.3L do not have it.

Why are you interest to this non-popular car? actually there are same low end 1.6L jap made car such lancer, sunny etc can be considered, non-popular car may need high cost in insureance and maintenance [sweatdrop]

I am looking for low-end 1.6/1.5 Jap Sedan Auto car, below is a list

1.City - Thai made, 55K+, expensive

2.Vios - Thai made, 50K, FC good, but not stable at high speed > 90KM, small interior space

3.Lancer - Jap made, 50K, sporty look, old sohc engine, model is old

4.Sunny - Jap made, 49K, poor FC, Ah-Pei car(other people said)

5.Liana - Jap made, 50K, new engine, outlook is good, but high insurance and maintenance?

My last choice maybe Liana. Another choice is Verna 1.6A, only 46K, but Korean made.

u sure on the insurance? [sly] the insurance for lancer is veri high u noe..coz too popular for pple to mod and get into accident ==> result in higher premium...non popular cars tends to be lower, coz not much accident involving these cars...
