350Z vs Evo 9

In perth the Evos are extremely rare where else I see 350zs everywhere.

 

Anyway, sightings aside. I'm doubtful about the factor bilstein suspension for it being too soft so I'm considering between standard and performance package. I'm gonna try and see if I can strike a deal for a standard with BBS rims and just get tein coilovers to replace the factory.

 

Its hard to spot modification parts for 350z. I've yet to see any hardcore stuff for them yet. As for Evo 9 I guess the basics like zorst, pod, cams etc etc are readily available. The ECUs are still in the midst of R&D although they are readily available. The Evo 9 comes with Mivec so I'm not sure if they will complicate their tuning even further.

bro...i'll choose the evo anytime...in terms of price...its cheaper...road tax lower...insurance lower. 350Z sits only 2 while evo can tk 5 pax...350Z is nt as easy to mod unlike the Evo...brakes wise...evo using brembo while 350Z using normal brakes...Tok abt comfort it would be the 350Z cos it sits onli 2 pax...on paper, 0-100 for Evo is abt 5.2s....350Z should be 6s.....

 

i tot Fairlady is a coupe???

My guess is that for me to bring the 350z up to speed, I'll probably have to pay twice the amount of money to reach what half the money the Evo 9 can squeeze in terms of ponies.

so if u want to squeeze the most ponnies out of ur ride,i wld think the Evo is more worth it...

as we know FI can squeeze more power easily compare to NA...

but if convert the 350Z to FI set up,will set u back with more money...

but after setting up the 350 to FI set up,haha....very easy to win any evo also...

will be similar to the Supra already....

so best bang for bucks is the Evo....

but more unlimited power will be the Fairlady...

I'll take that into consideration. But I'll need to look at the local modding scene, in terms of tuning aspect of the 350z. I seldom seen any 350zs with hardcore mods neither do I hear anyone discussing about them.

 

Not wise to have them import, bolt on and later screw up because they've never done a 350z before.

I know of quite a few hardcore 350's here in melb, but they've all spent on excess of $30k on mods. not worth it IMHO. Parts are very readily available, but u have to bring them in from the states (same with forums). for the turbo, call MRT and speak to them. they've done at least 2 cars with their bolt on kit and will be able to advise you on what is needed and the parts used.

I'm not really keen in touching the internals as far as mods goes.

 

I think I'll lean towards the Evo 9 for now and still test drive the 350z just to get a rough idea. If eventually I fall for the 350z, most likely it'll be stock. For the money of money I spend on mods, the gains are not significant without doing drastic work on the engine. Also the lack of knowledge in Perth.

YEap evo 9 sounds good If you're calling MRT use your mobile... cheaper than calling interstate on a fixed line. besides i'm sure they have an affiliated workshop in each state.

FR's characteristic is to oversteer... but the fact tt the FR 350 is understeering a bit is probabaly due to nissan's concern to make it a safer drive as with most other cars in the market desgined for the average consumer... afterall a understeer is safer and easier to rectify than on oversteer... so it shouldnt be much of a concern to u i guess

 

and by average i meant not rally racing or F1 drivers and is in no means saying u are a bad driver whatsoever

I'd go for the Nissan 350Z. The Evo9 just don't make the cut (for me at least).

Coupe.

Sports Car Look.

Prestigous.

 

Above factors are intangible.

Just imagine ... you drive up the Ritz Carlton's driveway in a 350Z and the valet or doorman will open the door for you and will see you got up. Now very frankly and truthfully, do you think you'd get the same response from inside an Evo9? Most probably he would think which Beng is coming for dinner.

 

V6 engine (isn't the Evo only just a blown 4-pot?)

Nissan's 3.5L VQ engine won top (No. 1) engine in Ward's for the past 10 years.

NA long-term reliability (vs TC problems with coke laydown on turbine and intercooler sections.

A properly-maintained NA engine can last many many years. TC engine - I really don't know.

 

Don't worry about Brembos lah - these can be fitted out easily. Should not be the criterion of selection.

 

Also don't look at the 0-100 timings only lah (unless you are into just street racing).

On long-hauls, e.g. NS Highway, the 350Z will be much more enjoyable to drive and it will overtake the Evo9 in the half-mile and full-mile timings. The Evo9 will just run out of breath at WOT. What's more important is the quality of drive, less ear-fatigue ... imagine having to endure turbo grunt continuously for 3-4 hours each time!

The problem with your anology in this case is that you don't know his driving style and habits. I believe that BMW and i had the 2 most properly moddified cars on this forum. Our mods were very similar and i suspect our driving styles are too. My needs have changed and thus i sold the 180. In his case its belive its his want to experience another hi-po car. For the rest of this post, don't get me wrong. I love both the evo and 350, but between the 2 i would go for the evo, and i love my nissans. But rather than get the 350, i would get the rx8. same price bracket. sexier looks and better performance.

 

His car will go on the track for circuit work. This is where the evo shines (even stock) as compared to the 350. If the suburbs in perth are similar to the outser suburbs in melb where i used to live, the light-to-light performace of the 350 is severly lacking. My 180 when putting out less than 100rwkw would still outrun some mildly modified 350's. I'm sure you're also more likely to find BMW taking his car through the twisty hills rather than a long open road. Don't you think long open roads are just plain boring. Where's the fun in driving straight for long distances at constant speeds???

 

350's are very common here in aust. you see them heaps of times driven by yuppie or hairdresser type ppl. The evo is rarer and more exclusive here and usually driven my performance orientated people. and also contrary to what people think, the evo is no slouch in a straight line and stock for stock it easily outruns the 350 over the 1/4, 1/2, and full mile distances (abit at a lower difference over the 1/4 mile).

 

Btw the VQ engine series has not been out for 10yrs, it was conceived in 2002. Its predecessor the VG series was in the top 10 for most of the last 10 years. It has never been no.1 ever though.

 

And speaking of engines, I'm sure BMW knows the cons of having a modded TC engine. He has one already. And thinking of that, when it comes to age, other than seals and hoses i've had no real issues with my TC car. Mine was 14yrs old when i got her afterall so i reckon i would know better than most the issues of owning an old TC car. Whats this coke laydown you're mentioning abt though???

 

Aesthetically the 350 is marginally better courtesy of its coupe profile, but the aggessive lines of the evo arent far behind. Unfortunatly they attract 2 diff types of girls. The 350 your clueless superficial ones and in the case of the evo, the thrillseeking superficial ones... don't know which one is better though
