Wax Protects! Sealant Attacks!

Hello Pals [:)]

I have learnt much more in MCF forum than any other sites on Detailing.

I must thank all bros and sis for kind sharing.

Here I want to share my experience with both kinds of Coats after the layer of Polish;

ie Wax vs Sealant

Whenever I apply my sealant - currently using Soft99 Fusso 12mths paste for Dark cars,

there is frequent appearance of 'streaks' or 'patches' [shakehead]

Here I conclude that the sealant has in its purpose of bonding with the paint,

actually 'mixed' with the underlying paint [shocked]

In the long run, if sealants are used too often, the underlying paint would be

constantly under erosion or attack.

Here I think, although bonding or protection is longer for sealants, the sealant has

at the same time, 'taken out' some underlying paint as well.

Whereas for waxes, its layering does not affect the paint, therefore it wears off faster.

Is this observation true for you?

This is just another of my stupid ownself-think theory [hur]

and ownself stupid conclusion, use less sealant, more wax -- it goes a longer way [:p]

cheers

haha. no larr, i think most likely you applied too thick. plus certain soft99 products are not meant to be left to be dried if not it'll become a pain in the arse to remove.

No. Sealant does not attack your paint. Sealant will fall off if you apply it on a waxed surface.

If you get the patches as stuff, there is something wrong with your application.

sorry... question please [:p]

if the sealant needs to bond with the paint

there must be some form of chemical inter-reaction

or to lock both the paint and the sealant layer

unless there is no bonding at all [confused]

wauu leoww, i know i damn jia lark [sweatdrop]

once there is some 'mixed' of both compounds

then does it follow that there is also some erosion or attack on the surface paint?

the appearance of the streaks is weird-looking; a little colourful under the light

creating confusion for self and others [:p][smash]

Hi bro Knight,

Maybe let me do a bit of explaining and hopefully it helps.

Assume sealant/wax is like a sun block lotion. After applying it helps to block off the harmful UV rays but it does not damage your skin. Some sun block lotion tends to wear off easier whereas some will stay longer on our skin. The same theory applies to the sealant/wax that you apply on your car. There are some sealant/wax which will bond better to the paint surface and last longer and there will be some that don't.

The reason for the streak mainly is due to over applying of products, applying products on warm/hot surfaces or there are some products that simply streaks no matter how careful is your application method.

Definitely agree nod.gif

In fact I'm a current user of Fusso 12mth (paste), streaking is due to over applying. Trust me, for the paste do not need to apply thick. A thin layer would be sufficient and will do the job well.

In fact after using, the beading would be very fine and small. N once the coating is slightly worn out the beading would get slightly larger. In fact I did try to see if can last long; the water is still beading after 2 mths but larger beads for certain areas. I couldnt bear to see the car not being detailed and thus the experiement stopped at 2 mths. laugh.gif

I have another stupid theory as well.

If I do not mind the dull color of the wax or a sealant after application, will it provide a better or worse protection if I do not wipe it off?

I ask this because some part of the car is not very visible, and im thinking of leaving the wax on for these parts if they provide better protection. Is that advicable?

Hi Toalson,

Check wif u....I thot the beading isn't small and fine (po chai yun size)...but larger blobs (panadol to 20-50 cents coin size), beading nonetheless? [dizzy]

Water rolls off, and car really no-wet esp. after washing....

Hand itchy....wanna try mix of SRP as base + Fusso paste as LSP.... [sweatdrop]

Ermm now at least we get to the detailed definition.scholar.gif

The beading I got from using Fusso is now similar to SRP+EGP. Definitely small than 20cent coins. for freasly detailed car, its in the region of less than 10 or even less than 5 cent coin. nod.gif In ur terms close to po chai yu. wink.gif

When it start to have larger than 50 cents is when I start to diy. But usually tat's not the case, I would at least would do it every week or 2. hur.gif Some weekend i would even do it 3 times. Fri nite, sat afternoon and then sun morning. laugh.gifhur.gif

In fact if u had applied Fusso, water would run off so much faster as compared to SRP+EGP. The moment u splash water on the car the water just flow off so fast that not much is left. But when u spray the beads are so fine. flowerface.gif

lemme guess black cars?

you hv to b careful abt such stuff. part of the reason is due to the cloth u use. everytime must be clean cloth. no less.

More likely to have left patches of sealant after treatment. I find these small little patches say after 1-2 days, missed after the "shiny" surface comes up with each detailing. Must use a "polariod" glasses to see next time for the missed spots.

think they are just hydroxyl bondage. probably the free radical activated by the uv ray initates the reaction. just my two cents worth...

Streaks are mostly caused by improper application of which the most common is too thick an application. Sealant will last longer than wax and you need to prepare the surface before applying the sealant so that it will bond properly to the car paint.

The proper step should be wash and dry car. Apply a chemical cleaner such as Klasse AIO and then the sealant. Lastly you can top it up with wax if you so wish. Under no circumstances should you spply sealant over wax.

To remove streaks, use a quick detailer with an MF cloth.

Agree that the cloth or applicator you use for washing/detailing is very important. Before using any cloth or applicator, perform the cd test. Take an unwanted cd and use the cloth or applicator to rub on a part of the cd. If scratches occur, then the cloth or applcator is not suitable for washing.
