Gothviruz Neutral Newbie May 29, 2006 Share May 29, 2006 I DIYed waxing and polishing. Obviously the methods used were wrong and ended up, my black sedan has micro swirling scratches all over! They look like patches all over, very visible under light. I went to a Car Grooming shop at punggol plaza and was told that they can only temporarily hide the micro scratches for only 2 months. They charge $138. Wat dya guys think? ANy other recommendation? How abt 3Mendouz Shine? http://3mendouz.com.sg Saw their website, not bad but dunno the price. ↡ Advertisement

It's better that u invest on the Paint-Protection System on your ride for a more lasting protection. I've did 3mendouz on my ride, so far so good . I've paid abt 200+ during promotion, usual price is abt 300++, not sure if there's any promotion now. I believed they shall able to help u on swrirl mark. Do reminder that swirl marks on black color car tends to be more obvious than other color. The only way is to minimize them n not 100% eliminated. Gothviruz Neutral Newbie May 29, 2006 Author Share May 29, 2006 I juz got off the phone with 3Mendouz Shine.. $380 for the package + $158 for the compound to remove the micro scratches. Total = $538 .. I think i'll try Scratch-X 1st.. where can i get it? And how much?
Rontheman Neutral Newbie May 29, 2006 Share May 29, 2006 Recommend you not try Scratch-X as that entails a hell lot of elbow grease. For a localised area, using Scratch-X would be good.
Gothviruz Neutral Newbie May 29, 2006 Author Share May 29, 2006 (edited) wat dya mean by elbow grease?.. u dun recommend scratch-x?.. wat's ur advice, bro?..These marks really a pain in the eye..and to add salt to the wound, my car is only 1 months old.. Rontheman Neutral Newbie May 29, 2006 Share May 29, 2006 Bro, in your situation, best to call in the professionals. Need to use machine to polish the swirl marks out. Forget about the $138 offer.
Gen2 Neutral Newbie May 29, 2006 Share May 29, 2006 Hi bro, if you are using hand than I suggest you get some fillers products to fill in the swirls instead of removing them. You can try 3M Swirl removal, Turtle Wax Swirl Removal, Mother's Sealer and Glaze or Meguiar's Swirl Removal, you don need to use a lot of strenght with these products, simply work them in with moderate pressure than buff off before they fully dry up. To effectively remove the swirls you need a machine to help you.
Toalson 1st Gear May 29, 2006 Share May 29, 2006 I felt it was ok to use scratch X cos he mentioned they are micro. However, he can choose to do panel by panel and not the whole car in a single day.
Rontheman Neutral Newbie May 29, 2006 Share May 29, 2006 Cause Scratch-X is only mildly abrasive and without the proper cutting pad and using hand power (elbow grease), you'll definitely faint before finishing half the car! Scratch-X is useful by hand only if the area affected is small.
Toalson 1st Gear May 29, 2006 Share May 29, 2006 But using of fillers is as good as wat most shop does and after a peroid, the swirls would be visible again. And I believe the key word is that the swirls are micro as he mentioned thus, use of swirl remover and not filler product might still be better. Tats my own opinion. Shtpp Neutral Newbie May 29, 2006 Share May 29, 2006 wow so much $...... I think it would be better to let them assess ur ride condition to have an accurate quote. For Scratch-X , u shd able to get in places like autobac or even some petrol koisk. Sost be less than $20 if 'im not mistaken.

Toalson 1st Gear May 29, 2006 Share May 29, 2006 No worries, we all have our opinions and suggestions and its all up to him to make up his mind which is better.
Mzrmazda3 6th Gear May 29, 2006 Share May 29, 2006 Bro, if you were to spend another $138 jus to temporary hide your micro swirl marks, my suggestion is save that $ in your pocket or alternatively engage our in house detailing guru, Bro Gen2 to do a swee swee grooming on your ride
Gen2 Neutral Newbie May 29, 2006 Share May 29, 2006 You are right about the swirls reappearing after sometimes, so it will depand on how often our bro maintain his car. If he maintain his car every 2-3 weeks once than there is no worry about the fillers being washed off and most of the time it is the bonnet and the boot area that need more attention. Although he mentioned the swirls are micro, he also mentioned that the swirls are very visible under light, so base on that I think it is not that micro after all. The demo of ScratchX shown in Meguiar web site invloved the whole process, ie ScratchX -> DC polish -> NXT Tech Wax, DC polish and NXT Tech Wax both contain fillers. ScratchX does help to remove minor swirls but for those who are not familiar with the product, they might introduce more scratches and marring to the paint work. ScratchX is a good product to tackle small defective area, for a bigger job like swirl removal to the whole car, products like #83 or #80 would be more effective. Rontheman Neutral Newbie May 29, 2006 Share May 29, 2006 By the way, if you are interested in Scratch-X, saw it selling at Home-Fix at IMM. Currently they are having a promotion and Meguairs products are having 20% off. Saw they also have Color-X there as well. ↡ Advertisement
