Renegade Neutral Newbie August 15, 2006 Share August 15, 2006 ...starts blowing hot air (literally) while smelling of some metallic-tinged rotten fish, first, turn off your aircon. Chances are what you're inhaling is the refrigerant that's somehow leaking into the aircon system. Which, incidentally, is rather unhealthy, to say the least. Mine did, recently, and the cause was traced to a corroded cooling coil that had to be replaced. Got the job done (removed, replaced all within 4 hours - coil comes with a 1 year warranty) by one chirpy Peter Seat (interestingly enough) who also fixed back my glovebox a whole lot better than the now-defunct dealer ever could. Well, here's something Fluffy won't be encountering in his car. ↡ Advertisement

RadX Moderator August 15, 2006 Share August 15, 2006 If your air-con is on, but no air comes out...check the resistor...most prolly kaput
Renegade Neutral Newbie August 15, 2006 Author Share August 15, 2006 Hmmm....that's interesting. If you can actually smell the fishy metallic gas, there's a chance a leak's occurred (happened in my friend's old e36 once, too) so you might want to check for that along the way. If it's just warm/hot air blowing (assuming you're on a mk4 VAG), it may be the temp sensor or (more commonly) wrongly-rated fuse that's blown

Tashi Clutched August 18, 2006 Share August 18, 2006 hi bro What about if the aircon seems fine, but has a ticking sound? Our next 15k servicing is up soon, so will get that fixed or checked at the very least. But meanwhile, checking if the Skoddie/VAG bros here know anything about it? It is a Skoda Superb btw. bless tashi
Renegade Neutral Newbie August 22, 2006 Author Share August 22, 2006 If you're sure it's the aircon, check the fan. Probably nothing serious unless the noise gets too noiceable over time - may be some stuff getting stuck in the fan. If a crunching noise happens (followed by debris coming out of the vents), turn off the aircon immediately. It could have been insulating foam getting into the fan. Tashi Clutched August 22, 2006 Share August 22, 2006 our next 15k coming up, so think will ask the workshop to check it. There isn't any debris dropping out, nor crunching noise. Just a light ticking sound. Some bros ever mentioned coolant and such, and you mentioned the fan. So will get the mechs to check those soon. thanks bro! tashi

Fitzy Neutral Newbie August 11, 2007 Share August 11, 2007 Mine does blow hot air and smells funny when i turn on the aircon after parking for a few hours. It lasted about 3-5sec, when the compressor kicks in then everything back to normal. Mine ride is abt 7mths. Is there anything wrong with my aircon or is it normal? Taikc Neutral Newbie August 11, 2007 Share August 11, 2007 Looks like the fan area or the cooling coils could be dirty or mouldy. If you haven't had the air con service you can asked them to sevice the cooling coil, normally is under the dashboard or the left side of the front passenger seat. The recommeded servicing is every years. Rough cost is about $50-65 for this cleaning.

Fortress Clutched August 13, 2007 Share August 13, 2007 This generally happens due to lack of freon gas...and excessive speed when travelling... ↡ Advertisement
