today LianHe Zaobao reported a Singapore registered car turned over on Malaysia NSH due to tyre burst, and a woman died of this accident [sweatdrop], from the pic can tell the car is Honda civic FD [sly].

unbelieveable it is Honda Civic FD [confused]

You see for yourself again whether it is a FD.

It is not a FD lah, the head lamp is not like that one.

Quote from Strait Times

"The rear tyre of the new Black Honda Civic she was riding in blew out, causing the car to go into a spin. It flipped over several times and came to a stop at a tree."

read it too...very sad...but how come Civic no safety measures like SRS, etc?

SRS only available on the 2.0 Si. From the picture, both the front airbags had inflated

My observation is based on the pics. Unless the reporters don't know Honda, new plate number means new car. Don't tell me FD head lamp can change to ES head lamp? Anyway, a bigger accident pic will be clearer. Is it Saturday newspaper?

If you look at the windscreen wiper closely, both are dangling at left and right side. just like the wiper of the old Merc 200 1980's W123 model, goes from centre to the side and back to the centre (not sure what do we called this type of wiper design) I think the Honda Odyssey also the same wiper design. 7th Gen Civic wiper blade are the normal type same as the Altis, Sunny.

Assuming you stick to the speed limit of 110, would a Civic overturn so easily even if tyre burst ?

Any car can overturn even at lower speeds, but basically the higer the CG, the more likely it will be to flip over.

On an off topic note, this is where a boxer or rotary engine have a slight advantage becasue of the engine design, the CG will be slightly lower as compared to a I4, I6, V6, V8 etc. of the same weight.

The airbags did go off from the pic, but there are limitations and crash testing doesnt take into account rollover scenarios.

This was just bad luck. It may reflect on the tyres but it does not reflect on the quality of the car.

The lady and her back seat passenger was flung out of the car and she sustained head injuries. Is this another case of no seat-belt. If they did belted up and still get flung out of the car, then Honda Jap will have to look into the car design seriously. After this incident, better to request for premium tires from KM if buying.

It could also be a simple case of not using the seatbelt properly. For e.g. small thing like having the back of the seats more reclined means that you're more likely to slide out under the seatbelt in the advent of some accidents (i.e. more reclined = more likely to slide out under the seatbelt).

Yep, I took a closer look at the pic in ZaoBao and indeed it's the new FD Civic. Can see the FD tail lights and the 1.8 ivtec emblem.
