I always serviced my ride at KM and never once they commented the RP 5w20 I brought is too thin for my Stream.

Maybe it's the SA that I was assigned to during my 1K servicing.

For my 10K servicing, that SA never say anything about my Schffaers 10w30.

i'm using 5w20 engine oil i got from terence... so far no problem. if u are worried, why not get 4 quarts of RP and try for 10k km first. if u not happy, go back to your current oil during yr 30k km servicing

in addition u can also check yr engine oil level using the dip stick every mth to see that it dosent drop to much

Even Kah Motors Service Advisor commented that my Mobil 5w30 was way too thin for my car's liking.

Wonder if they have basic knowledge of engine oils or not. dead.gif

they only know how to do oil change....but no knowledge of the engine oil laugh.gif

The thing is that they think that our cars go through what they deem as a Le Mans 24! At most 100km a day mileage if you are unlucky. You don't even reach 5kRPM in a daily drive unless you are absolutely nuts and even if you did, it is only for what? 3s?

Even if people are uncomfortable with a 20wt, a 30wt shouldn't be that bad at all either. 5W40? MB, BMW, VW cars love that. Otherwise, if they want to stick with warranty and use 30wt, the 0W30 are in their radar.

As usual, Toyota engines can use all the way down to 0W20 but if you are scared, use 5W30 or 10W30. Would still be good. Forget the 40wt oils. Your car will feel sluggish.

There is one thing that i believe.

Thinner oil doesn't give you better FC.

I have switched to 30wt oil.

My ride FC went down to 8.2.

I was getting 8.5 for the 40wt oil.

Check the above website.

"The main reason 5W-20 was specified for your engine is to increase the CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) reported to the Federal Government. CAFE is the combined average fuel economy of all of a vehicle manufacturers product line. Minimum CAFE levels are specified by the Federal Government. In order for a vehicle manufacturer to continue selling profitable large trucks and SUV's, which typically have poor fuel mileage ratings, as compared to smaller cars, and still meet mandated CAFE requirements, they must also sell enough of the smaller cars which have much better fuel economy ratings to offset the poor fuel economy ratings of the larger vehicles. For model year 2001, the change to a 5W-20 oil will allow Honda and Ford's overall CAFE to increase by a very small amount, typically in the tenths of a mile per gallon range. 5W-20 oil is a lighter viscosity than a 5W-30 oil and therefore has less internal engine frictional losses, or less drag on the crankshaft, pistons and valvetrain, which in turn promotes increased fuel economy. This increased fuel economy is virtually undetectable to the average motorist without the use of specialized engine monitoring and testing equipment under strictly controlled test track driving when compared to a 5W-30, 10W-30 or a 0W-30 viscosity motor oil."

Do you trust AMSOIL?

Seems like there're two schools here on whether 20wt oil can be used for our car engines.

So which one should I believe? I'm confused now... [sweatdrop][shakehead]
