Jus ordered a set of HID from the group buy..

now have a qn... we shld understand that merc has this bulb sensor that will shows of the malfunction when the bulb is faulty. I heard from some workshops saying that there might be a possibility that the malfunction light would comes up when u install aftermarket HID as the wiring is connected to the opposite, where the current flows in the opposite direction.

jus to verify that anyone got their merc fitted with after market HID, NOT those bi-xenon headlight, whether it works with after market HID or it doesn;t work.

Another thot is the original bulb is still connected to the wiring, but the wiring is being cut open to tap the power from the switch of the lights for the HID and fitted it into the headlamp, and the original bulb will still be working, hidden inside the engine bay, would it work?

Thanks.

Called them this morning and was quoted $160 for installation and programming.

Went thru forum of mercedes and understand that the setting of Xenon present mus be set to "ON" in order to allow HID to work in mercedes.

reach MBM at around 4pm today with the HID kit from our MCF group buy. it took 2 hrs for the whole process. they have to take out the bumper, take out the entire headlight, plug in the bulb by drilling a hole underneath the headlight compartment, link the wire out to the ballast to be attached onto the body of the car. V precise work done my MBM, $160 is worth the price for the job done, plus the programming they have to do.. [thumbsup]

anyway, good HID kit from the grp buy and it looks really nice on the new MERC, like those with the avantgarde options.

Not very sure about Merc cars, but when my original BMW xenon ballast blew, I decided to retrofit aftermarket (jap brand) xenon ballasts/bulbs.

Advantages are:

1) ONE OEM BMW xenon ballasts cost the same as a SET of aftermarket xenon ballasts AND bulbs.

2) They're brighter

3) Cheaper bulbs

To make it work, you have to figure a way to mount the ballasts and bulbs. Bulbs in aftermarket kits are usually "H" sizes (eg H7, H1...) while Euro car xenon bulbs are usually D1S or D2S sizes. After that, you'll need to reflash your ECU to accept xenons so that you won't get the bulb malfunction message.

Xenon bulbs and halogen bulbs have different resistence, hence you need to tell the computer what is the correct value in order not to trigger fault lights.

Now the problem with NON-OEM xenon kits is that, the resistence may vary from your OEM Mercedes xenon kits. And even after reflashing, the fault lights will still exist, and your xenons will not work properly. They will keep flashing on and off.

So your mechanic, who should be a Mercedes expert, will know the exact difference in resistance between this particular aftermarket xenon kit and OEM kits. He will then add resistors to the circuit to "bluff" your ECU into believing everything is ay ok...

I think that's how it's done.

nah, the circuit in merc works v simple, stock xenon and after market HID works the same way, thus they jus enable the xenon feature in the ECU and it works. wad i think its jus an additional feature that merc implement so that not much ppl can buy aftermarket HID, but onli stock xenon install by daimler chrysler, and then they do programming for u.

my merc advisor oso say until v jia lat cannot install la, will burn ur whole ecu wadever.

but the merc specalist tells me that it is safe, cos every car comes with fuse..jus computerise it and it will work. i read thru forum of merc around the world and they say it the same way..

Recently switched to Shell 98 from Caltex. Find the Shell's mileage better. Got about 700+km from a tank, which is 65L. Before that, I get 650km or so per tank.

Same for my Integra, after switching, I'm getting 460-480km, instead of 400-440km from the 45L tank.

tts v good consumption, is about 7.5km/litre...

slihglty below 3/4 tank can pump RM70++ of petrol...

believe my fuel tank is much bigger cos slightly below half tank gives me $120 of petrol.
