My E36 316i couldn't climb the slope on the U turn back to Scotts Rd, just after Tanglin Club. I had to roll back and pick up momentum to clear it.

muayhahaha. i'm laughing becos you're joking right?

My E36 316i couldn't climb the slope on the U turn back to Scotts Rd, just after Tanglin Club. I had to roll back and pick up momentum to clear it. Then it was only a 6 yr old well maintained car. The car is too heavy for the engine, but the built is definitely great. Dump in a 12" sub and the sound will be solid, unlike the Lancer which require a lot of padding to stop rattling.

Are you kidding????

I don't think I am that senile yet but my E36 316i definitely could have climbed that slope and more easily...

Anyway, the E36 remains one of my favourite models - we had 4 of them in my family over the last 14 years :)

never liked the single cam engines as they tend to be rough and seriously underpowered....overheating is another issue...and the tought of having 2 valves per cylinder in a 4 cylinder engine turns me off even more...no offense intended...

those 2 choices are quite different le... the toyota wld suit you if u wan a daily runabout wif minimal fuss.

the e36 yes, will have wear n tear parts to replace, and the 316 won't give you much power. but the driving feeling is totally different. But be prepared to spend $$$ on wear and tear and lots of time visiting specialist workshops. (But nothing compared wif getting an E30..hahaha)

There are still a number of well taken care of E36's running around SG.

Well...you're gonna deal with a car that's more than 10 years old...maintenance will be a pretty frequent thing...a new car would be more or less fuss free besides the occasional servicing...

Yeah me too. I did have a problem with dirty oxygen sensors and throttle body.

the car kept wanting more fuel (98 Octane) But after a throttle body cleaning and oxygen sensors plus Maf sensor, it works smoothly.

I think i got 11 km/l at one time driving carefully.
