Carcraze 1st Gear November 17, 2006 Share November 17, 2006 (edited) ok, finally!! now we know how BM's thai assembled version is gonna look like. anyways, i feel the rear resembles the pre f/l altis(we never had it here because at that point of time, BM was still selling the JDM corolla) a tad. overall, i'll take this over the JDM gen10 anytime. Tploh Clutched November 18, 2006 Share November 18, 2006 Corolla in China targets the affluent younger generation but Corolla in Japan targets the group of car buyers who want efficiency and stability, i.e. ah pek group.
Vit4wd 1st Gear November 18, 2006 Share November 18, 2006 People do not mind a China assembled Toyota because of the branding. Why not a Chery or Geely then?
Caravan 5th Gear November 18, 2006 Share November 18, 2006 It's the decades of experience in designing cars. These china companies have only been manufacturing cars for a few years(saw on tv last night geely is 4 years, Lifan is only like 1 year), so they are rookies. The cars may look like cars on the outside, but their structural integrity, safety, efficieny, engine technology etc are much inferior. Made in china or thailand toyota may have inferior worksmanship, QC etc but the basic design is still safe and sound.
Shouyi 3rd Gear November 18, 2006 Share November 18, 2006 I think the the FD Civic still looks better than this Asean Corolla although it is launched one year earlier. FD still rules!
Julian Clutched November 18, 2006 Share November 18, 2006 Yes , it is nice but a Corolla is still a Corolla.... boring.... I don't know why Toyota and Honda love to make Euro, JDM, American, Australian, ASEAN version of their own cars..... no identity. How can a Corolla or an Accord look totally different in different market????
Vit4wd 1st Gear November 18, 2006 Share November 18, 2006 To suit different mkt tastes and needs. Just as McDonald's rice burger (FANtastic)will never sell in USA.

Blackyv Turbocharged November 18, 2006 Share November 18, 2006 that is marketing stuff.... dont play play... there r 1001 reasons if you can access their book on why, where, when, who, what,........ companies are paying good money to those marketing guy u know........ just like "Geely" name...... maybe it's good to be used in china due to "lucky" in chinese word (direct translation) but when go to ang moh country, who the hell understand that word?? even i myself a chinese felt turn off by such a gay name ....... IF someone do their homework, they may work out another name for certain country or market.... that is the reason why smae car has different name in diff country.... a name in country A may sounds lucky but could be a slang for bad language in country B... ↡ Advertisement
