oh yah, forgotten about gays and gals. guess there is only 2 catalogues here. nevertheless, AWD is the future. Even ferrari now adopt AWD for F430, 595, etc. Too bad we only have subaru and audi to choose from, at least for road cars. in japan, you can get camry in awd, merc in awd in german.

MARK X +ves

Totally different cups of tea. The average Joe will go for Camry, unfortunately.

yes. the mark x can only use RON 98 petrol as the 2.5l engine there is the JDM version for japan domestic market where high octane petrol is readily available. [:p]

the lexus IS250 uses the same engine but it has been de-tuned and has 10 bhp less (not significant in day to day driving). but the slightly detuned IS250 engine can use RON 95 daily without risk of damage to the engine. [nod]

i also interested in going to a PI which will let u try the mark X. i guess the only way is to go look for a second hand one at a dealer to test drive or to let your fren who owns one to give you a spin. [flowerface]

hey, someone selling a 1 month plus mark x in straits times class ad. maybe you can try.

for petrol, i know mark x needs premium grade petrol. in japan, this is defined as RON 96 and above. so our RON 95 just failed to make the grade....if not can save some $$$$.

But just for discussion, my current Y2004 rav 4 also require premium grade petrol, as pasted on the fuel tank door, but the user manual states minimum RON 95. so I think RON 95 may be able to make it for mark x....just my guess

welcome any bros with other data and experience share [thumbsup]

man drive rear driven car while boys drives front wheel drive car. anyone who is technically inclined and love the dynamic of a good performance car would almost definitely goes for a rear driven car.

There are different people with different need in the world. Pls don't label people with what type of car they drive. Be a man and understand there are different people in the world.

Back to the topic. I had RWD car before and currently driving a FWD car. If you compare FWD and RWD car for the same target market (i.e. don't compare RWD sport car with FWD family car, but RWD sport with FWD sport or RWD family car with FWD family car) and within reasonable power envelope (e.g. less than 200 hp, we know it is difficult to have FWD to handle 300 hp). In terms of basic handling in daily commute, both can the job very well UNLESS you push to the limit. We are talking about the LIMIT being at unsafe speed in Singapore road. There is a difference in handling when you drive them on the track, but even that Civic Type R and DC5 are FWD and is handling amazingly well on track. I believe the Alfa also has a good touring car in the European touring car competition with FWD against the BMW RWD.

Secondly, you need to be a lot more careful with powerful RWD car in rainy day which is very common in Singapore. The rear wheel can step out a lot easier and it is far more difficult to save the car compare to the push-out of a FWD car.

Thirdly, the space at the back of the RWD is just no match to the FWD car.

Back to Camry vs Mark X. About a year ago when I was shopping for my current ride, I did look for Mark X. However, the one thing that put me off is the equipment list. Most PI import the lowest end model of Mark X which strip out most of the features like the blue cabin light, electric seat, leather seat, Navigation etc. At that time, it was the old Camry which you know how "well" it handles. And at that time, a Mark X from PI with good feature list is more expensive than a Cefiro/Camry only the entry model is lower price. At the end, it is my "superior"'s (aka wife) preference to get a Cefiro due to the long feature list and good room at the back.

Remember, while we may wish to drive our car at 180km/h, in reality of reasonable speed, I think the practical side will kick it more often.
