Xefera, though the price may be rather reasonable for a 4 years old Passat, but there are already so many owners and you might want to review into the car history.

You might want to ask the owner or car dealer they are agreeable for you to bring the car to either IDAC or AAS for inspection to confirm that the car had no past problems and the parts installed are approved by LTA.

[laugh][laugh] Don't worry, have no intention to buy the car. Just thought it is an attractive deal and so post here to share with other forummers [:p]

Frankly speaking, I don't know man. Never owned a conti before, but mine never go beyond 6-7k for each servicing.

You can do a search on the net for more info but some of the horror stories are here

believe lots of horror stories are linked to uninformed US guys who use mineral oil. Hven't heard much from the Europe side and as such, the 1.8T is a very popular engine within the whole VAG group, including the SEATs, Skodas and Audis. It is also a World Best Engine winner before.

as for this passat, i don't think you'd get all the goodies in the ad, as if you check VAGSG, a "B5.5 passat" owner is selling lots of her stuff.....

Certainly the oil used will be a factor. Anyway just to give a heads up to those interested to buy the car. Get it properly checked cos this oil sludge issue is not unknow for this model.

Neutral Newbie
I think the major servicing is 60k interval (someone driving a VW can help to confirm), however, it's not really a major killer.

The killer comes from those worn out parts such as air con compressor, suspension, alternator, etc. Thus it would be good to check on those usual parts and history or servicing and warranty claims.

Major servicing should be at 90k...basic timing belt change + wear and tear...

Well, if u have read the thread carefully, those folks having problems uses non-synthetic or mineral oil for their servicing. VW when they address the sludge issue insists on using synthetic oil.

In SGP where owners always use synthetics, you don't hear of such issue. Not to mention the recommended oil change by agent is 15k. So if u go back to agent, they only change your oil every 15K.

Asking price too high. if sell to dealer, the very max, price she will get is low 50s.but i suspect it will be high 40s instead.

Personally I wont run >10k even on synthetic oil in Sg for a NA car cos of the start stop traffic & hot weather in SG. 15k on a turbo? [shocked]. Too much shearing & degradation for sg type of driving. I think few people go back to agents once the warranty period has expired unless v KS & loaded [flowerface]

I own a Passat before; the major servicing is at 90K mileage if you bring bcak to agent - budget $3K for two days at the workshop. I could not agree to tear down and replace things just becuase it was nearing shelf life so took it to Servotronic for standard servicing cost me around $250 for whole day job!
