Neutral Newbie

I am not sure where to post this but since my intended car i am buying is a japanese car, ill post it here (and the people here are helpful imo).

After reading about all the types of dealers there are, I decided to buy a Impreza from an AUTHOURISED DEALER. And cartimes seems like a big, good repute company. Firstly, I went down to the shop a number of times, the price also went up a number of times. From day 1 to day 3 the price went up about 3k i think. I understand this as COE went up. (just wanna show my fustration here but I understand it is not their fault). Then , they did promise me that I would be able to get a 9.5k for my old car and assured me that I would get my coe in 2 bids max even though it is non guaranteed as it is Motor Image usual practice. As I am still owing money on my old car(waiting for rebate to clear it), they promise to speak to the accounts department to help me pay for it first then use my loan to pay them back. I was also promised that I would get stuff like auto tint, spoiler and leather seats cheaper. This was all before I signed my loan.

Then this is what happened next...

I was told sorry, we tried our best but accounts department says they cant help. Then they said my old car can be taken in at a lesser amount only. Again they tried their best already. The coe as we know went up and I was expecting not to get the car. I called them to ask them anyway, They said that I was $9 short on coe and Motor Image decided not to give out open cat coe for this bidding. MI decided this only now, when I am involve. Ok, so MI hate me for some reason. Then today I got a call again saying why dont I come up with extra cash to secure the coe for next bidding. err... isnt it a practice for MI to give open cat coe for 2nd bidder?

So, I am here to plea, is there a way for me to get out of this deal? I have 500 deposit with them and im thinking to just forfeit that money. But if i could, can I get out of this deal plus get back my money? or I can never get out of this deal even if I forfeit my money?

I am working and need a car for my work. That is why I keep rushing on my own time ( I rush drom the east to west then back to east of singapore several times to get the loan asap). Now I will have to wait for at least 6 coe bids which I cannot afford to wait. ANy advice will be greatly appreciated.

AD, PI, they are all the same....imo at least.

Thank you.

What is written on the contract?

did it say?

1) the price they take in your old car?

2) handover date? (it is usually hand over old car and take new car at the same time)

Just forfeit the deposit and u can get out of this deal. But that is if the old and new car transaction is under 1 contract.

Keep bugging them, because COE prices have headed up and you'll have to pay more for a car now anyway. Come to a compromise with them or try to lodge complaints with both Motorimage about the Parallel Importer that is representing them, as well as with CASE. The SE can't close the deal with you until you get rid of your car, so they have to come out with the money to clear your loan as promised. All they got holding you down is a $500, but maybe they rather forfeit the deal than incur a loss due to the rising COE prices being different from the price you bought at.

You aren't the first one to get stung by PIs representing ADs and making a mess of it.

Never paid deposit? Don't think that's possible unless the trade-in price for your old car is higher than your loan amount.

Or that you are friends with Glen Tan...

Thanks for the reply guys. Case is able to help? I really doubt it because they did not do anything wrong in legal terms. I pissed because they promise something before I sign and then state otherwise after I sign. Its my own fault believing. But can case help even if they have not done anything wrong legally?

I think some of you are mistaken. sorry if I made the post to be interpreted that way. I am still having my old car. But I didnt renew the road tax for obvious reasons. Its just that I was promised a better price, and a garauteed 2nd bidding to get the car but now its a lower price for my old car and add money to get my second coe bidding. I just gave in about the price of my old car but they said MI usually give their buyers a coe after the 2nd try but now they ask me to top-up. I am angry because I did ask them about the coe bidding thing which is one of the main criteria of buying a car from them.

is the below 2 terms in black & white?

1. in the sales agreement. it should have stated that it is a 2 bid guaranteed COE.

2. in the purchase agreement. it should have stated the amount they want to purchase your old car at.

solution:

if the above 2 terms is in black & white, be firm and ask them to honour the 2 bid guaranteed COE & the amount they want to purchase your old car at.

for the re-finance issues which they can't do for you, i suggest that you give in on this part and take cash out to full settle your old car.

can PM me if you need more help. [:)]

1)There isnt a 2 bid guarantee in black and white, it is a 6 bid non guarantee. BUT they said that it is MI practice to give open cat to buyers even if I lost on their 2nd bidding. But after I sign, they ask me if I wanna top up extra cash for the 2nd bidding.

2)It have stated the amount for them to purchase my old car which was lesser than intended. But I signed it anyway after they did some complaining abt the condition of the car. I gave in. But I am stuck becoz now I cant get the loan rebate to pay full settlement of the car as I did not get the coe bidding. Now that I think of it, my car is still in my carpark where they said they will tow it away awhile ago. I will have to pay parking soon...sigh...

1) it's stated to be non-guarantee... so there's no basis for them to really give you a COE at all.. surely you know that usual practice is just word of mouth and never a legal bidding clause. Just too bad that you wasn't too careful on that, esp when COE is moving higher and higher.

2) Anyway, you still can keep your old car since you need it but I hope they didn't state a delivery date of your old car, otherwise you will end up with no car at all.

Looking at your post, seems like you tot you have strike a good deal but that deal is too good to be true. If the top up amt is not too much, maybe you shd consider topping up since it's the bottleneck to your whole issue but I suspect the top up amt is not a small sum. [:/]

As for your parking, you will still need to pay for it when you have a new car, so why sign? [:)]

what is in black & white is totally different from what you assume you will be getting. i am amaze that you actually sign on the paper since it is so different. you just got to learn that everything must be in black & white to protect your best interests.

I understand that and that is why in my previosu post, I said that what they are doing is legit, just that I am lied too. Too good to be true. Hence the quote I made, AD and PI all are the same.

I want to thank you guys for your comments. I guess that I can never get out of this deal and will have wait 3 months if I were to. I will not be topping up because it is a pride thingy. First, my car price went up, then my old car price went down and lastly, I still need to top up for my coe. I am not 'giving in' anymore. I am actually hoping that they tow my car because then I do not have to pay parking [laugh]
